Twitter for Android finally gets Night Mode

Twitter for Android dark theme

Why are our screens white? No, seriously. It's blinding in the dark, straining for our eyes, and it totally doesn't have to be this way. "Transient smartphone blindness" is now even a (ridiculously unnecessary) medical condition from people using their devices in bed. Fortunately for Twitter users, a Night Mode has finally arrived on the Android app.

Android users love their night modes. Just look at the disappointment bubbled up when the Developers Preview for Android Nougat arrived with the function absent. Now at least these users can find the respite they need as they tweet.

Night Mode for Twitter shifts the normally white background to a deep navy tone and turns all the text white. This light-on-dark aesthetic is proven to be healthier for your eyes than the normal dark-on-light fare we encounter on the regular, so you might want to keep night mode on all day long.

Currently there is no option to have Twitter automatically toggle Night Mode due to time of day or lighting conditions, which is a little bit frustrating because it seems like an easy enough implementation. Nevertheless, it's good to see an app get such a long-clamoured-for feature.

Click the button below to snag the latest version of the official app from the Google Play Store. Give Night Mode a whirl, then head back over to the comments and let us know if it's going to be your standard mode of operation going forward.
