The Samsung Galaxy Tab A NOOK 7” is an affordable reader from Barnes & Noble

If you're looking for a simple little no-frills Android device to stay caught up on your reading at home and on the go, then your search may be over. The Samsung Galaxy Tab A NOOK 7", a name which just rolls right off the tongue, is here to give you just what you need without any bells and whistles.

Like its equally well-named siblings, the Galaxy Tab S2 NOOK 8" and the Galaxy Tab E NOOK 9.6", the Tab A NOOK 7" isn't interested in power users or being a gaming machine. Its more modest screen size nearly puts it into the 'phablet' realm of displays, making it a perfect companion while traveling.

It's a deliberately stripped down device that boasts a price tag of only $140. The 2MP camera basically assumes you already have a better one riding around in your pocket, and the 8GB of internal storage clearly has text in mind over your entire music library. There is, however room for expansion with a microSD slot. It runs Android 5.1 Lollipop out of the box, which is a bit of a curious concession.

All in all, it's an inexpensive device that's for a niche use base whose primary interest in the device will be having it take the place of a bookshelf. If you're already a NOOK owner, then Barnes & Noble is knocking $40 off the price for a limited time, and if you're a card carrying customer – hey – you get a free case to go with it.
