Nubia’s Red Magic series has been in the news a lot recently, specifically thanks to the Red Magic 5G. Originally launched in March, Nubia’s flagship gaming smartphone with a 144Hz display has slowly been made available in more regions and color options. Now, the company is announcing the Red Magic 5G Lite, a phone very similar to the Nubia Play.
As the “Lite” name implies, this is a slightly downgraded gaming phone compared to the Red Magic 5G. Instead of a 144Hz display it “only” has a 120Hz display, which is still very respectable. Powering the device is the Qualcomm Snapdragon 765G, 8GB of LPDDR4X RAM, and 256GB of UFS 2.1 storage. While there’s no cooling fan, it does still have the company’s ICE 2.5 liquid cooling system. The battery comes in at 5,100mAh, which is actually bigger than what you get in the regular Red Magic 5G.
The Red Magic 5G Lite has the same 6.65-inch AMOLED display size and 2340×1080 resolution. For cameras, it has a main 48MP camera along with an 8MP wide-angle lens, 2MP macro camera, and 2MP depth sensor. The front camera is 8MP. The Lite model has shoulder triggers for gaming and a similar “X” design on the back along with RGB effects.
Typically, the Red Magic phones are available through the company’s website, but the Red Magic 5G Lite is actually being sold through a carrier. Vodafone in Spain is the first to get the device. Prices start at €17 per month on a 36-month installment plan (€612 in total). In addition, Vodafone is including a free wireless gaming pad (value of €50) and a free case (value of €20).
Nubia did mention that it was bringing the Red Magic 5G Lite to Spain “first,” but there’s no word on wider availability yet.
