Au travers d'une narration réactive, les joueurs vivent le récit de la mère retraçant les événements entourant la disparition de son fils. Les joueurs suivent les traces d'une femme terrifiée, qui s'est obligé à entrer dans cet endroit effroyable dans le seul, mais de retrouver son fils. L'action se déroule dans un décor fortement influencé par la mythologie scandinave et les contes folkloriques norvégiens. Avec Through the Woods, les créateurs d'Antagonist ont recréé les sensations qu'éveillent en eux la forêt avec leurs enfants, avec toute la vie et le mystère qui procurent une erreur de solitaire dans ce lieu.
