LineageOS 19 is now available for the Motorola Edge 30, Edge 20 Pro, Xiaomi Mi 8 Pro, and more

After extending LineageOS 19 support to four Xiaomi devices, the Motorola Edge 20, Google ADT-3, and Dynalink 4K Box last month, the LineageOS team has now added five more devices to the build roster. The Motorola Edge 30, Edge 20 Pro, Xiaomi Mi 8 Pro, Mi 8 Explorer Edition, Mi Mix 2S are the latest devices to make it to the list. If you own one of these devices, you can now install the Android 12-based custom ROM by following the links below.

The following table includes links to the LineageOS Wiki for the devices mentioned above, along with links to their XDA forum pages. You can download LineageOS 19 from the Wiki link for your device and install it by following the instructions provided on the page.

Note: Some of the Wiki links provided above are yet to go live. Check back in some time to download LineageOS 19.

You’ll have to unlock your device’s bootloader and set up a custom recovery to install LineageOS 19. If you’re not sure how to go about that, you can follow the steps provided in our how to install a custom ROM and how to install TWRP guides. Once you’ve got that set up, follow the installation instructions on your device’s LineageOS Wiki page to flash the custom ROM.

Before you do any of that, take a backup of your data or you’ll lose it during the process. In addition, download a suitable GApps package if you wish to use Google apps on your device after flashing LineageOS 19. The ROM doesn’t come with Google apps pre-installed, but you can follow the steps provided in our how to download and install the latest GApps guide to install Google apps.

While the LineageOS team has extended LineageOS 19 support to the devices mentioned above, it has dropped the Poco M2 Pro and Redmi Note 9 Pro Max from the unified “miatoll” build. The team has also added Sony’s Xperia Tablet Z2 LTE and Xperia Tablet Z2 Wi-Fi to the LineageOS 18.1 build roster.

Have you tried LineageOS 19 on your device? What do you like or dislike about the custom ROM? Let us know in the comments section below.

EU votes in favor of new law that will force Apple to adopt USB-C on iPhones by 2024

The European Parliament has voted in favor of making USB-C the standard charging port for devices across various categories, including smartphones, tablets, cameras, and more. While many OEMs have already transitioned to USB-C, Apple still offers its proprietary Lightning connector on iPhones, AirPods, and other accessories. With the new law in place, Apple will have to switch to USB-C by the end of 2024.

In a press release, the European Parliament states that “all mobile phones, tablets and cameras sold in the EU will have to be equipped with a USB Type-C charging port” by the end of 2024. The new requirements will extend to cover laptops in spring 2026. It further highlights:

Under the new rules, consumers will no longer need a different charger every time they purchase a new device, as they will be able to use one single charger for a whole range of small and medium-sized portable electronic devices.

Regardless of their manufacturer, all new mobile phones, tablets, digital cameras, headphones and headsets, handheld videogame consoles and portable speakers, e-readers, keyboards, mice, portable navigations systems, earbuds and laptops that are rechargeable via a wired cable, operating with a power delivery of up to 100 Watts, will have to be equipped with a USB Type-C port.

All devices that support fast charging will now have the same charging speed, allowing users to charge their devices at the same speed with any compatible charger.

Although not mentioned in the release, the law requires manufacturers to adopt the USB Power Delivery standard for fast charging. However, it won’t prevent manufacturers from implementing their own fast-charging standards. Manufacturers will still be able to offer proprietary fast charging standards on their devices as long as they also provide USB Power Delivery support. Since the new law does not cover wireless charging, the European Commission plans to implement new interoperability requirements by the end of 2024.

Note that the European Council still has to formally approve the directive before it’s published in the EU Official Journal. The law will go into effect 20 days after publication. Member states will have 12 months to transpose the rules and 12 months after the transposition period to apply them. The law won’t apply to products that hit the market before the date of application.

Although the law requires all devices to switch to USB-C by the end of 2024, Apple could make the change as soon as next year. The company has reportedly been testing iPhones with USB-C internally, and next year’s iPhone 15 lineup could mark the switch to USB-C.

These are the best Apple AirPods Pro 2 cases to buy in 2022

In September 2022, Apple revealed the AirPods Pro 2. The AirPods launch accompanied those of the iPhone 14 line and Apple Watch Series 8. The second-gen variant of the original AirPods Pro doesn’t introduce a major overhaul. Nonetheless, this iteration offers some very welcome additions which make the AirPods Pro Pro-er. These include a new Find My speaker built into the case and a mightier H2 chip. Thanks to the latter improvement, users now get to experience a stronger Active Noise Cancellation (ANC). The Cupertino firm claims that it’s twice as powerful as that of the first-gen model. Furthermore, users get to take advantage of an all-new Adaptive Transparency mode — which is basically a smarter upgrade to the original Transparency mode. If you plan to buy the AirPods Pro 2, consider protecting them with one of our recommended cases. After all, the material that Apple uses is prone to scratches.

Best AirPods Pro 2 cases

    Spigen Ultra Hybrid

    Clear

If you're looking to protect your AirPods Pro 2 without concealing the case's iconic design, this transparent cover will do just that!
    VRS Design Modern

    Sleek

This cover blends between soft and hard materials. As a result, it offers a solid outer shell, while delicately handling your AirPods Pro 2 case on the inside.
    Spigen Rugged Armor

    Shockproof

Spigen is well known for its durable and excellent products. It's selling a rugged case for better shock resistance. It only comes in Black, though.
    BRG Silicone Case

    Colorful

Available in 15 different colors to pick from, this soft silicone cover adds protection and life to the rather dull AirPods charging case.
    MOBOSI Hard Shell Cover

    Rugged

Rugged cases offer better shock resistance, but they tend to come in Black only. This one is available in three other colors.
    SWINCHO Silicone Cover

    Wireless Charging

Available in Midnight Blue, Wine Red, and Black, this soft silicone cover protects your AirPods case from scratches and shocks.

The AirPods Pro 2 upgrade doesn’t make sense if you freshly bought an original pair. The improvements that the 2022 edition introduces are insignificant to justify an unwarranted upgrade. Though, those who have had the original model since launch are likely struggling with the battery life at this point. This makes the AirPods Pro 2 a meaningful upgrade, rather than a dull one.

The AirPods Pro 2 should last you for years to come, which is exactly why you should protect them with a case. Keeping them exposed will likely get them scratched within a few days of purchase. That’s especially true if you place them in the same pocket as your keys or other sharp objects. The exterior of the AirPods Pro 2 charging case is unforgiving when it comes to rough objects. Anything can leave a mark on it, and that merely ruins its clean aesthetic and premium feel.

    Apple AirPods Pro 2
The AirPods Pro 2 support Active Noise Cancellation, Adaptive Transparency, Dolby Atmos content, MagSafe charging, and much more. They pack plenty of offerings, despite their compact build.

Which of these AirPods Pro 2 cases will you buy, and why? Let us know in the comments section below.

Android 13 Custom ROM List: Unofficially update your Android smartphone!

Android 13 is making the rounds everywhere now. If you have a recent-ish Google Pixel smartphone, you should already have your taste of the latest iteration of Android. This update to Android may be considered incremental in nature, but that in no way diminishes the improvements it brings to the table. Nonetheless, unless you have a supported Google Pixel device or one of the few non-Google smartphones with a “Developer Preview” program, there’s a very good chance that you will have to wait for a few months to have your OEM send across the latest dessert onto your phone.

This is where XDA’s developer community comes in — groups of talented individuals working together to achieve the common cause of getting the latest Android onto devices before the OEM can, and in many cases, because the OEM can’t.

With a large number of official as well as unofficial builds of Android 13-based custom ROMs popping up, we felt it would be a good idea to create an index of devices that have Android 13 ports available for them. Do note that these are aftermarket builds and some will very likely contain bugs. Please read the first few posts of each linked thread so you know the current status of the build before flashing it on your phone.

Note: In this article, we will only be providing a link to the first Android 13 custom ROM that we come across for a particular device in our forums. This does not serve as an endorsement of that particular build, nor are we suggesting that the work of others should be ignored. We are limiting what we link to in order to prevent this article from becoming too lengthy. Please visit the XDA forums for your device to see if there are other, possibly more complete, builds available.
