At its Peek Performance event in 2022, Apple unveiled the M1 iPad Air 5 along with the affordable iPhone SE 3. The iPad Air 5 (2022) features the same design as the iPad Air 4 from 2020. However, it packs significant hardware improvements — including a new chipset and 5G support. If you’re in the market for a new tablet that fits squarely between the latest iPad Mini and the iPad Pro, the 2022 iPad Air 5 might be the one for you. Here are the best deals for the iPad Air 5 (2022). And don’t forget to grab a case after you buy it!

The iPad Air 5 (2022) went on sale during March 2022 on Apple’s Online Store. It’s available in two storage configurations; 64GB of storage beginning at $599, and 256GB of storage beginning at $749. If you also want cellular support with 5G on either storage configuration, then you’ll be shelling out an additional $149 for the privilege, totaling $749 and $899 respectively. All models are available in multiple vivid colors.

If you’re picking up a cellular model, keep in mind that it can support either eSIM or a physical SIM card. All models support Wi-Fi 6 technology for fast Wi-Fi data transfer, meaning that cellular may not necessarily be a requirement depending on your use case.

If the price is a bit steep, Apple is also offering up to $680 in trade-in credit when trading in an older iPad. Tablets from other manufacturers aren’t eligible, as Apple will instead offer to recycle them for you for free. Sadly the company doesn’t offer a breakdown as to how much exactly you can expect to get for your iPad until you submit a serial number.

Google might offer a 10.95-inch display and up to 256GB storage on the Pixel Tablet

Although Google has only given us a glimpse of its upcoming Pixel Tablet so far, we’ve learned quite a bit about the Android tablet thanks to resourceful developer Kuba Wojciechowski. Over the last few weeks, Wojciechowski has revealed details about the Pixel Table’s SoC, cameras, connectivity, and more. In addition, other sources have suggested that the tablet could be the first to launch with a 64-bit-only version of Android 13, offer docking capabilities and USI stylus support. But the leaks don’t end there.

Wojciechowski has now unearthed the Pixel Tablet’s display specifications and storage configurations (via 91mobiles), along with a few more details. According to the developer, the Pixel Tablet will sport a 10.95-inch display and come with either 128GB or 256GB of onboard storage. In addition, the developer confirms that the tablet will offer Wi-Fi 6 support and launch with a first-party USI 2.0 stylus.

Furthermore, Wojciechowski claims that the Pixel Tablet has entered the Engineering Validation Test (EVT) phase. This means that Google has finalized its design and hardware. Google has reportedly sent a few units to India for EVT and certification, suggesting that the Pixel Tablet could make its way to India, like the upcoming Pixel 7 series.

Along with information revealed in the new leak, we know that the Pixel Tablet will pack Google’s first-gen Tensor SoC and two Sony IMX355 sensors. The tablet will likely launch with Android 13 out of the box and offer some unique docking capabilities. Google is also reportedly working on a ‘Pro’ variant of the Pixel Tablet, but details about it have remained scarce so far.

What do you think of the Pixel Tablet based on these specifications? Will a 10.95-inch display and up to 256GB of storage by enough for you? Let us know in the comments section below.

One UI 5 beta 3 for the Galaxy S22 series rolls out with support for themed icons, improved animations, and more

Samsung has started rolling out the third One UI 5 beta build for its flagship Galaxy S22 series in the U.S. and a few other regions. The Android 13 beta update (firmware version ZVI9) brings several improvements and bug fixes, including themed icon support for more apps, improved animations, and more.

While previous One UI 5 beta builds for the Galaxy S22 series offered themed icon support, it was limited to Samsung’s first-party apps. With the latest beta release, Samsung has extended themed icon support to more apps (via 9to5Google).

However, as Mishaal Rahman points out, many Google apps, like Google One, Home, Snapseed, Translate, and YT Studio, still don’t have themed icons on the third beta release. That’s because Google hasn’t updated these apps to offer a monochromatic app icon, which is necessary for the themed icon implementation.

Interestingly, these apps have themed icons on Pixel devices because of a Launcher3 flag that forces the Pixel Launcher to “use inbuilt monochrome icons if app doesn’t provide one.”  Since the Pixel Launcher is exclusive to Google’s devices, its themed icon fallbacks aren’t implemented in AOSP Launcher3 builds. As a result, the aforementioned apps don’t have themed icons in the One UI 5 beta 3 release. However, this shouldn’t be a problem for most users, as Google will likely update the affected apps by the time One UI 5 rolls out on the stable channel.

Along with themed icon support, One UI 5 beta 3 brings some animation improvements, a new immersive slideshow-style stories feature for the Gallery app, and a host of other bug fixes. You can check out the full changelog in the screenshots attached above.

New Pixel Watch teaser showcases its unique twist-lock strap mechanism, confirms Gorilla Glass protection

Google will officially announce the Pixel 7 series and the Pixel Watch at a hardware launch event early next month. In the days leading up to the event, the company has started sharing teasers showcasing all the upcoming products. A few days ago, Google shared a video on the Made by Google YouTube channel, giving us a closer look at the new Pixel collection. However, the video only included a short clip of the highly-anticipated Pixel Watch. Now, the company has shared a slightly longer video of its first Wear OS smartwatch highlighting its premium design.

The new video, titled The Design of Google Pixel Watch, showcases the smartwatch from all angles. Although we’ve seen several images of the Pixel Watch in the last few months, this is the first time Google has officially shown off its unique twist-lock strap mechanism.

The video also showcases some of the new watch faces that Google will ship with the Pixel Watch. Sadly, all the watch faces included in the video have a black background, so it’s difficult to tell where the watch’s display ends and where the bezel begins. Regardless, the watch’s seamless case design makes it look like it has chunky bezels.

Another interesting tidbit revealed in the video is that the Pixel Watch will feature Gorilla Glass protection. A close-up shot of the case back clearly shows Gorilla Glass branding, but it doesn’t confirm the variety of Gorilla Glass used.

Although the video doesn’t reveal any details about the Pixel Watch’s hardware specifications, recent leaks suggest that the Pixel Watch could pack the Exynos 9110 chipset, a 300mAh battery, and LTE support. We’ve also learned that Google will offer a host of first-party bands and straps for the watch and a wireless charger with a USB-C cable.

What do you think of the Pixel Watch’s design? Do you like the seamless case and the proprietary twist-lock strap mechanism? Let us know in the comments section below.

The Xbox September update brings a library revamp for consoles

Microsoft recently announced the new Xbox Elite Wireless Controller Series 2. The controller went on sale for $129.99 on the Microsoft Store yesterday and, along with it, the company rolled out a fresh update for the Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One consoles.

The September update for the Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One brings a revamp for the Full library view in the My games and apps section. The redesigned UI aims to streamline access to games in your library by giving access to all the games you own and any games you have access to with Xbox subscriptions in the All games tab. This includes games part of Xbox Game Pass, EA Access, and claimed Games with Gold. In addition, the updated UI gives you easy access to catalogs of your subscriptions, editorial content, and all your apps.

The new setting will let you select a specific drive as an installation location. In addition, it includes a Let Xbox decide option that will automatically install games and apps on the fastest drive with available space.

In addition to the console changes, the Xbox September update brings a new feature to the Xbox Game Bar on Windows PCs that will help you generate a shareable link for all captures. To use this feature, open the Xbox Game Bar on your PC using the Windows+G keyboard shortcut, then click the new Copy link button at the bottom of any selected game capture.

The Pixel Watch might offer a Google Photos watch face integration

At its upcoming hardware announcement event, Google will unveil its flagship Pixel 7 series and the highly-anticipated Pixel Watch. In the days leading up to the launch leaks and rumors about the upcoming devices have started picking up pace, and we recently learned that the Pixel Watch could be more expensive the recenlty-announced Apple Watch SE 2. Now, a teardown of the latest Google Photos update has revealed that Google’s first smartwatch might come with a new watch face integration with the app.

A teardown of Google Photos v6.8 for Android conducted by the folks at 9to5Google has revealed new strings pointing at a watch face integration, likely for the upcoming Pixel Watch. The strings state that the integration will let users “Select watch face photos,” in the Google Photos app.

The upcoming feature will reportedly let users select multiple photos to use as watch faces and the watch will cycle through the selected images during the course of the day. However, Google Photos will have a maximum limit on the number of photos that can be added as a watch face background.

Although the strings don’t explicitly state that the upcoming Google Photos watch face integration is for the Pixel Watch, the timing suggests that Google could debut the feature with its first smartwatch and extend it to other Wear OS 3 watches in the future. Currently, we don’t know what the UI for this integration would look like. But we expect Google to share more details at its hardware launch event early next month.

It’s worth noting that Google Photos already offers a similar integration with the Galaxy Wearable app, which lets users set a photo as a watch face background on supported Galaxy smartwatches. However, the Galaxy Wearable integration only lets you select one photo at a time.

Are you looking forward to the Pixel Watch? What about it has you most excited? Let us know in the comments section below.

Instagram’s upcoming ‘Nudity protection’ feature will automatically cover objectionable photos in chats

Instagram is testing a new feature that will automatically cover up unsolicited nudes in your DMs. The feature, aptly named Nudity protection, is currently in development, but it should roll out to users in the coming weeks.

First spotted by app developer and reverse engineer Alessandro Paluzzi, Instagram’s Nudity protection feature will use on-device technology to cover up “photos that may contain nudity in chats.” A screenshot of the in-development feature confirms that Instagram will not have access to the photos. Furthermore, the screenshot reveals that objectionable images will remain covered unless the user chooses to view them.

In a statement to The Verge, Instagram’s parent Meta has confirmed the feature’s existence and revealed that it is in the early stages of development. The company has also stated that it will be an opt-in feature, and Instagram won’t enable it by default on rollout.

To address privacy concerns arising from Instagram’s ability to analyze photos in your DMs, Meta spokesperson Liz Fernandez said, “We’re working closely with experts to ensure these new features preserve people’s privacy, while giving them control over the messages they receive.” The company reiterated that the feature wouldn’t allow Instagram or Meta to view the actual messages or share them with third parties.

Currently, we don’t have any further information about Instagram’s Nudity protection feature. Meta plans to share additional details in the next few weeks as the feature goes into testing.

Speaking of new Instagram features in testing, the social media platform is also working on a new monetization tool for its creators called ‘Gifts.’ It will let users send two types of gifts to creators, along with a personalized message.
