Paranoid Android Sapphire Alpha 2 released for the Xiaomi POCO X3 / X3 NFC

After releasing fresh builds of Paranoid Android based on Android 12 for the Xiaomi Mi 10 series last week, the Paranoid Android team is back again with a new announcement. The team has just released the Saphhire Alpha 2 build for the Xiaomi POCO X3 and POCO X3 NFC.

The first build of Paranoid Android Sapphire Alpha was released for the POCO X3 and POCO X3 NFC last month. However, there were quite a few issues and bugs in the initial version. Many of these bugs are now being addressed with the release of Paranoid Android Sapphire Alpha 2.

The latest version notably fixes the scrolling lag issue in apps like Twitter, yellow tint in the Google Photos app, a bug with banking apps, and adds updated system and vendor blobs.

Follow the linked thread below to download the latest build. You can sideload the OTA in recovery if you’re already running the Sapphire Alpha 1 build. New users, however, will have to perform a clean flash — which involves wiping user data. Make sure to take a full backup of your data beforehand. Note that the POCO X3 and POCO X3 NFC share a common build as they’re essentially the same phones.

Here are all the Galaxy S22 Ultra official cases from Samsung

The Galaxy S22 series is finally here, following months of leaks and rumors. Just like last year, there are three models to choose from — the smallest Galaxy S22, the larger Galaxy S22 Plus, and the large stylus-equipped Galaxy S22 Ultra. The Ultra might be the most interesting of the bunch since it’s replacing the long-running Galaxy Note series. We have a hands-on of the Galaxy S22 Ultra, so you can check that out to know our thoughts on the device and how it carries the Note legacy forward.

If you’ve already snagged the Ultra, perhaps from our roundup of the best Galaxy S22 deals, you might also be interested in keeping your new expensive phone from cracking and breaking after a simple drop. Picking one of the best Galaxy S22 Ultra screen protectors is probably a good idea, and in this roundup, we’ll be looking at all the cases for the phone that Samsung itself is producing.

Samsung always releases a handful of cases and covers for all of its flagship phones, and the Galaxy S22 Ultra isn’t any different in that regard. Even though there will likely be hundreds (if not thousands) of alternatives from other companies, it’s a good idea to check out what Samsung itself offers. You can find every available option below.

    S-View Flip Cover (Three Colors)

This cover case has a window in the front for an always-on clock or other functions. It's sold in Black, White, and Burgundy.
Silicone Cover with Strap (Two Colors)

This soft-touch silicone case has a strap on the back that you can slide your hand into, for a better grip (sort of like a pop socket).
    Silicone Cover (Four Colors)

This simple soft-touch silicone case is available in four colors: Fresh Lavender, Black, Burgundy, and Olive Green. The Silicone Cover is a great option if you want to switch colors while making the phone a bit less slippery.
    Protective Standing Cover (Two Colors)

This is probably the most durable case out of this list, with a rugged design and an adjustable kickstand. It's available in White and Navy.
    LED View Cover (Two Colors)

This is a bit like the S-View case, but with just an LED clock (and no noticable cutout) on the front instead of an interactive display. The cover is available in Black and Light Gray.
    Leather Cover (Three Colors)

This is your typical genuine leather case, and might be a good alternative to the Silicone Cover if you want a less-grabby texture. It's sold in three colors: Burgundy, Black, and Light Gray.
    Clear Cover

If you just want a clear case for your Galaxy S22 Ultra that shows off the phone's own color, this is the one to get.
    Clear Standing Cover

This is just like the other clear case for the S22 Ultra, but this one has an adjustable kickstand. Handy.

If you’ve bought Samsung’s cases in recent years, nothing here will likely be surprising — most of these cases are minor revisions on what Samsung offered for the Galaxy S21 series last year. The S-View Flip Cover now has a small square-shaped cutout at the top right of the front display, while last year’s Galaxy S21 S-View Ultra Flip Cover had a much longer cutout that stretched to the bottom of the display. The Silicone Cover is also available in different colors compared to the same case for the Galaxy S21.

The only entirely-new addition is the Silicone Cover with Strap, available in either Navy (with an orange strap) or White (with a green strap). That design was previously only available in cases for the Galaxy Z Flip 3, which helped grip the smaller phone, but now it’s available for the Galaxy S22 series too.

    Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra
The Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra is the top flagship for 2022, bringing over top of the line performance, display and camera capabilities alongside S Pen capabilities to deliver an ultra experience for power users.

Samsung did kill off the Silicone Cover with S Pen that was available for the Galaxy S21 Ultra last year, but now that the Ultra has a built-in slot for its S Pen, there’s not really a need for that case anymore. That case was also fairly bulky, so I don’t think too many people will miss it.

Here are all the Galaxy S22 Plus official cases from Samsung

The Galaxy S22 series has finally arrived, after months of rumors, leaks, and speculation. Just like last year, there are three models to choose from: the entry-level Galaxy S22, the larger Galaxy S22 Plus, and finally the stylus-equipped Galaxy S22 Ultra that replaces the long-running Galaxy S Note lineup. There’s a lot to get excited about, and if you’re trying to make sure your shiny new Galaxy S22 Plus (perhaps acquired from our best Galaxy S22 Plus deals roundup) won’t shatter from a short drop, you’ve come to the right place. And if you’re still deciding on whether you should make that purchase, check out our Galaxy S22 Plus Hands-On to know our thoughts on the device.

There are always hundreds (if not thousands) of third-party cases for every new Galaxy S phone, but Samsung itself also produces a few covers and cases. Picking up one of the best Galaxy S22 Plus screen protectors might also be a good idea, especially if you’re not getting a case that closes over the front of the phone. We’ve listed all of Samsung’s official cases for the Galaxy S22 Plus right here.

Silicone Cover with Strap (Two Colors)

This is a silicone case with a strap on the back for sliding your hand under, to improve your grip (sort of like a pop socket). It's available in Navy and White.
    Clear Standing Cover

This case has a clear design to show the original color of your phone, with a built-in kickstand for easier media viewing and video calls.
    Frame Cover (Three colors)

You can choose between two interchangeable back frames with this case (one clear, one mirrored), and it comes in three colors: Navy, Clear, and White.
    LED View Cover (Two Colors)

This is a cover with space for one card on the inside, and the front displays a small LED clock. It's available in Black or Light Gray.
    Silicone Cover (Five Colors)

This standard soft-touch silicone case is available in five styles: Black, Forest Green, Glow Red, Arctic Blue, and Butter Yellow.
    Clear Cover

This is just your standard clear phone case, which shows off your phone's original color. Nothing too wild here.
    Protective Standing Cover (Two Colors)

This case has a more durable design and an adjustable kickstand. In the event of a fall, the kickstand snaps off to avoid breaking.
    Leather Cover (Three Colors)

This case is constructed from genuine leather, and is sold in three colors: Black, Light Gray, and Forest Green. Nothing too crazy here.
    S-View Flip Cover (Three Colors)

This case is similar to the LED Cover, but there's a larger front cutout for an always-on clock, call notifications, and other functions. You can buy it in Black, White, and Burgundy.

Nearly all of these cases are minor revisions on the cases Samsung created for the Galaxy S21 Plus last year, such as the Silicone Cover, LED View Cover, and so on. The S-View Flip Cover now has a small square-shaped cutout at the top right of the front display, while last year’s Galaxy S21 S-View Flip Cover had a much longer cutout that stretched to the bottom of the display. The Silicone Cover is also available in different colors compared to the same case for the Galaxy S21.

The only new addition this year is the Silicone Cover with Strap, available in either Navy (with an orange strap) or White (with a green strap). That design was previously only available in cases for the Galaxy Z Flip 3, which helped grip the smaller phone, but now it’s available for the Galaxy S22 series too.

    Samsung Galaxy S22 Plus
The Samsung Galaxy S22 Plus is the mid flagship for 2022, bringing over top of the line performance, display and camera capabilities in a larger housing for those that need to do more.

OnePlus Nord CE 2 is launching next week, and these could be its specifications and pricing

The next OnePlus Nord phone is right around the corner. Dubbed the OnePlus Nord CE 2, it’s set to take the reins from the last year’s Nord CE as the company’s newest mid-range offering. We have been hearing about the phone for some time now, with leaked renders and specs giving us a fair idea as to what to expect from the phone. Previous leaks pointed at a February 11 launch, but that’s not happening as we now have an official confirmation from OnePlus.

In a tweet earlier today, OnePlus confirmed that the OnePlus Nord CE 2 is coming next week. The launch will take place on February 17, and OnePlus says it’s going to be “a little more than you would expect.”

OnePlus has shared a 10-second video teaser that gives us a glimpse of the phone’s overall design. The design matches what we have seen so far in leaks, with the phone featuring a flat, hole-punch display and a rectangular camera module on the back with two big cutouts for cameras. Interestingly, the upcoming OPPO Find X5 Lite will reportedly feature the same design as the Nord CE 2.

The OnePlus Nord CE 2 is expected to offer notable improvements over its predecessor. According to tipster Yogesh Brar, the phone will pack a 6.43-inch FHD+ AMOLED display with a 90Hz refresh rate and will be powered by MediaTek’s Dimensity 900 SoC. For reference, the last year’s model packed Snapdragon 750G chipset. The phone will reportedly pack 6GB/8GB RAM, a triple camera setup (64MP primary + 8MP ultrawide + 2MP macro), a 16MP front camera, and a 4,500mAh battery with 65W fast charging support. On the software side, the OnePlus Nord CE 2 will reportedly ship with OxygenOS 11.3 based on Android 11. Finally, we’re told the phone will be available in Blue and Black colors.

As per a separate leak from tipster Abhishek Yadav, the OnePlus Nord CE 2 could be priced at ₹23,999 for the base model and ₹24,999 for the 8GB/128GB variant.

Here are all the Galaxy S22 official cases from Samsung

The Galaxy S22 series is finally here, following months of rumors, leaks, speculation, and more leaks. Just like last year, there are three models to choose from: the smallest Galaxy S22, the larger Galaxy S22 Plus, and the stylus-equipped Galaxy S22 Ultra. We have hands-on with the Galaxy S22 and Galaxy S22 Plus, so check that out to know our thoughts on the new flagships.

If you’ve already purchased the base model phone, perhaps from our roundup of the best Galaxy S22 deals, you might also be interested in keeping your new expensive phone from shattering. It’s a good idea to pick up some of the best Galaxy S22 screen protectors, but in this roundup, we’ll cover all of the Galaxy S22 cases that Samsung itself is selling.

Samsung always releases a few cases alongside all of its flagship phones, and the Galaxy S22 isn’t any different. Even though there will likely be hundreds (if not thousands) of alternatives from other companies (which we’re covering in our best Galaxy S22 cases list), it’s a good idea to check out what Samsung itself offers. You can find every available option below.

Silicone Cover with Strap (Two Colors)

This case has a matte finish with a navy color, and a bright orange strap that you can slide your fingers under for improved grip. It's available in White and Navy colors.
    Galaxy S22 Clear Standing Cover

This is pretty much your average clear silicone case, but with the added bonus of an adjustable kickstand for easy hands-free viewing.
    Galaxy S22 Frame Cover (Navy)

This two-piece case has a navy-colored protective frame on the sides, and two backplates (one clear, one mirrored) you can swap between. Samsung says the clear back is great for stickers, but sadly neglected to include any stickers.
    LED View Cover (Black)

This is a wrap-around cover for the Galaxy S22, with a small LED clock at the top-right and a slot for holding one card.
    Silicone Cover (Five Colors)

This soft-touch silicone case is available in five colors: black, Forest Green, Glow Red, Arctic Blue, and Butter Yellow. The red color is probably my favorite.
    Clear Cover

This is your basic clear plastic phone case, nothing too crazy. It doesn't add much bulk, and shows off your Galaxy S22's actual colors.
    Protective Standing Cover (Three Colors)

This case has a more durable design, with soft-touch sides and an adjustable kickstand. It's available in Navy, White, and Fresh Lavender.
    Leather Cover (Three Colors)

This case is constructed from genuine leather. It's available in three colors: black, Light Gray (which is really close to white), and Forest Green.
    S-View Flip Cover (Three Colors)

This cover case has a small window in the front for an always-on clock, call notifications, or other functions.

Most of these cases are simple updates to the designs Samsung offered for the Galaxy S21 series last year, such as the Silicone Cover, LED View Cover, and so on.

    Samsung Galaxy S22
The Samsung Galaxy S22 is the entry flagship for 2022, bringing over top of the line performance and camera capabilities in a form that fits many pockets and budgets.

Wallpaper-based dynamic theming could make its way to more Android 12 devices soon

Google may soon require all Android OEMs that ship devices with Google Mobile Services to offer users a Material You-style dynamic theming system. The company is reportedly looking to make this mandatory for Android phones and tablets that ship with Android 12 or are getting an Android 12 update.

According to Android Police, a reliable source with access to internal Google documentation has revealed that the company will require all new Android 12-based software builds submitted for Google Mobile Services (GMS) approval to feature a dynamic theming engine. This change will reportedly go into effect on March 14. The source further reveals that Google has laid down some guidelines for the dynamic theming engine to help OEMs implement a consistent solution.

As per these guidelines, the dynamic theming engine should be able to use a single source color to generate five tonal palettes (each comprising of 13 colors) that can adapt on the fly, three access palettes, and two neutral, much like the Material You dynamic theming system on Pixel devices. The consistency will help third-party developers who wish to add dynamic theming support to their apps.

Since Google’s Monet theming engine will go open source with Android 12L, OEMs will likely implement it on their custom Android skins instead of developing their own theming engine. As Mishaal Rahman points out, several OEMs, including Xiaomi and Motorola, have already started implementing Monet in their Android 12-based updates and we expect the others to follow soon. It’s worth noting that while Samsung’s One UI 4 update also features a dynamic theming system, Android Police notes that it is not powered by Monet.

Irrespective of whether OEMs choose to implement Monet or not, you should expect more devices to offer dynamic theming support soon. This might further give third-party developers enough incentive to bring dynamic theming support to their apps. For more details on Google’s Monet theming engine and how it works, check out our detailed explainer.
