The new Assistant weather widget now shows additional weather details

Last week, Google started rolling out the new Assistant weather widget to some users. While it’s not widely available yet, Google is already giving it a visual refresh which makes the widget even more useful.

As first spotted by Mishaal Rahmaan, the latest Google App update introduces an updated Assistant weather widget that provides more weather details. The widget is now also resizable, and you can expand it to display the daily forecast for the next two days.

While the previous version of the widget only displayed the current weather and high and low temperatures, the updated widget shows the forecast for the next few hours. In addition, you can also resize it to display the forecast for the next two days. You can check out the difference in the screenshots attached below:

We first spotted evidence of the new Assistant weather widget in a teardown of the Google app last month. At the time, the widget wasn’t accessible to end-users. But that finally changed last week when Google started rolling it out to some users.

The updated Assistant weather widget is rolling out with Google App version 12.42.14.29. If you own a device running Android 12 and want to check out the new widget, download the latest Google app from the Google Play Store. If the update isn’t live for you, you can also grab the APK from APKMirror.

Google finally took the wraps off the Pixel 6 series last week. The new Pixel phones come with several new software features, including a revamped At a Glance widget which now displays information from your calendar, your boarding pass on the day of your flight, your workout stats, and so on.

YouTube adds a “New to you” tab to help you discover fresh content

In a bid to make it easier for users to discover new creators and fresh content, YouTube is introducing a new personalized tab called “New to you.” YouTube started testing the feature earlier this year, and now it’s finally rolling it out to everyone.

The New to you tab is now available (via Android Police) on the YouTube homepage across mobile, web, and smart TVs. While the YouTube homepage feed is usually made up of content from creators you follow, the “New to you” tab aims to give exposure to lesser-known creators. YouTube says the feature goes beyond the typical content recommendations you get on your feed and tries to expose you to new content and creators you haven’t previously explored.

New to you tab shown on YouTube homepage

Since it’s a personalized feature, YouTube says the New to you tab may not always be available. Also, you’ll need to be signed with a Google account to see it.

“You’ve told us that you want to see new creators and new videos after you’ve caught up on your recommendations, so we hope this new option keeps things fresh, while also helping creators connect with new audiences,” said YouTube in a post.

The “New to you” tab will appear in the topics bar in the YouTube mobile app. When you click on the tab, it turns gradient. If you don’t see it, you can try refreshing the feed. You may also get the prompt to try out the new tab as you scroll through the feed.

YouTube has picked up several nifty features lately, including auto-translated content, video chapter integration in search results, a new gesture to quickly scrub through videos, and so on. YouTube is also testing Google Assistant integration on the YouTube Android app to provide search suggestions for videos you’re watching.

Google Camera 8.4.167 starts rolling out through the Play Store

Google’s all-new Pixel 6 series comes with several improvements over the previous Pixel model. Along with the new Google Tensor SoC, high refresh rate displays, and fast charging support, the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro pack significantly better camera hardware. In addition, Google has introduced a bunch of new camera features with the devices, and those should now be available for all early Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro buyers with the new Google Camera update.

Google Pixel 6 Pro Review: Fantastic everyday phone with an undeniable Exynos inspiration

When the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro first reached reviewers, the devices were running pre-release software. Google then released an early Google Camera update for reviewers, featuring several improvements and a few new features. The update (v8.4.167) has now started rolling out through the Play Store. So, if you’ve pre-ordered a Pixel 6 or Pixel 6 Pro, you will receive the update as soon as you set up your device.

As confirmed by Mishaal Rahman on Twitter, Google Camera 8.4.167 is now available on the Play Store. The update includes a few new features, including a Timer light, a manual white balance toggle, and a manual exposure toggle, along with some performance improvements.

At the moment, the update doesn’t seem to be available for older Pixel devices. I sideloaded it on my Pixel 4a, but the camera app crashed after a few seconds. So I wasn’t able to check if the features mentioned above were available on older Pixel models or not. Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro users shouldn’t face any such issues, though.

Google will start shipping the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro later this week. You should receive the latest Google Camera update as soon as you set up your device. If you don’t, you can try sideloading the APK from APKMirror.
