Xiaomi’s POCO X3 Pro leaks in full with a brand new Qualcomm chip

POCO’s current lineup of cheap yet performant smartphones loosely resembles the brand’s first smartphone dubbed the POCO F1. While the brand’s first device was an aggressively cheap “flagship killer” equipped with the Snapdragon 845, their later devices have mostly been cheaper mid-range phones that are respectable on their own rights. The POCO X3, though, was one of the best mid-range phones of 2020, offering a 120Hz display, Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 732G, and an overall amazing bang for the buck considering its price tag. The upcoming POCO X3 Pro seems like it’ll offer a similar value proposition, and thanks to an online retailer, we now know basically everything about the new smartphone.

Shopee, an online Vietnamese retailer, posted listings (1 and 2) that were shared to Twitter by tipster @chunvn8888. The listings not only confirm the design and basically all of the specifications, but also reveal key details of the unannounced Qualcomm Snapdragon 860.

Rumors about this chipset have been floating around the Internet for a few weeks now, but until now, it was unclear how the chipset would fit into Qualcomm’s existing Snapdragon 800 series. What’s interesting about this chipset is that it seems to be following the trend set by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 870. For some context, we used to only see new Snapdragon 800-series flagship chips launch once a year followed by an overclocked “Plus” revision of the same chip in the second half of the year. This year, though, we not only have the Snapdragon 888 as this year’s bleeding-edge chip but we also have the Snapdragon 870 which is an even more overclocked revision of last year’s Snapdragon 865 (which, remember, was itself revised and launched as the Snapdragon 865+.)

According to the Shopee listings, the “POCO X3 Pro phone is powered by a Snapdragon 860 chip that has not been launched by Qualcomm yet.” The listing goes on to detail the “technical information” of the chipset, including the fact that it has a Qualcomm Kryo 485 octa-core CPU clocked at up to 2.96GHz and a Qualcomm Adreno 640 GPU. If these specifications seem familiar, that’s because they’re fairly similar to the Snapdragon 855 and the Snapdragon 855+ which powered most 2019 flagship smartphones. This suggests that the Qualcomm Snapdragon 860 is a 2021 revision of the Snapdragon 855, which was first announced in December of 2018.

Images from the Shopee listing confirming the phone’s design and specifications.

Of course, the listings also reveal other specifications of the POCO X3 Pro, such as the fact that it will have a 5160mAh battery, 33W fast charging, up to 8 GB of RAM, up to 256GB of storage, a microSD card slot, a 3.5mm headphone jack, a 48MP quad-camera setup, a 120Hz display with a 240Hz touch sampling rate, and Android 11-based MIUI 12. It also seems to have the same external design as the regular POCO X3.

Here’s a summary of the POCO X3 Pro’s specifications based on the Shopee listings. Thanks again to @chunvn8888 for the tip!

Android 11 rolls out for Chromebooks with dark theme support

Google has begun rolling out a new build of Android 11 to the Chrome OS Beta channel, introducing two big features that should greatly improve the everyday experience.

According to Android Police, one of the features is a dark theme, which has been highly requested by the Chrome OS community. Google has been working on a dark theme for months now and it’s something we’ve covered as recently as October. With Chrome OS 89, Google is introducing a dark theme toggle in Developer settings.

Android 10 added support for a system-wide dark theme, but since Chromebooks are skipping Android 10 for Android 11, only now can they take advantage of it. The Android subsystem on Chrome OS was previously based on Android 9 Pie.

“Android apps are transformed with a sleek near-black background color that fits nicely with the rest of the Chrome OS UI,” said Android Police, which was able to test the newest Android 11 build on Chrome OS. “The Android settings menu looks the most polished, sporting a dark title bar and a bright teal accent color. Notifications also use a dark theme, except for those with an associated quick action. Some apps like the Google Play store still use a light theme, though, so there’s some work left to do.”

Google is also making changes to the way apps scale with the release of Android 11 on Chromebooks. That includes the return of uniform scaling, which was previously pulled from Chrome OS due to a bug. The feature scales Android apps to be up to 25 percent larger, so they’re more readable and easier to use. Android Police said you can adjust the display scaling in the Developer options.

The return of uniform scaling in Chrome OS appears to be separate from a feature Google is testing in the Canary Channel, which locks resize restrictions for Android apps. The feature imposes a restriction on resizing Android apps that aren’t optimized for large laptop displays.

Android Police said the rollout of Android 11 is showing up on Chromebooks based on the Hatch baseboard, but it should be available more widely soon.

The Moto G60 is coming soon: Here’s what we know about Motorola’s upcoming mid-range phone

Motorola is back to its old tricks again, with a renewed focus on mid-range and budget smartphones. While they’ve also been working on a few interesting flagships like the Moto G100, they’re mainly focused on making affordable budget and mid-range phones like the Moto G10, Moto G30, and the upcoming Moto G50. Now, XDA‘s Mishaal Rahman and I can share details about another mid-range phone in the new Moto G series: the Moto G60.

According to our sources, the Moto G60 (code-named “hanoip”) will launch with Android 11 on board in Latin America and Europe. There will be multiple SKUs with the following model numbers: XT2135-1, XT2135-2, and XT2147-1.

We’ve learned the Moto G60 will have a 6.78-inch display at Full HD+ resolution, specifically 2460×1080. The display will support a 120Hz refresh rate, though we don’t know if it is an AMOLED or LCD panel. There should also be a centered display cutout containing a 32MP front-facing camera. The rear-facing cameras are comprised of a 108MP Samsung ISOCELL HM2 primary sensor, a 16MP OV16A1Q sensor likely paired with a wide-angle lens, and a 2MP OV02B1b sensor. As for memory and storage, the phone should support 4 or 6GB of RAM and 64GB or 128GB of UFS 2.1 storage. For power, the Moto G60 is expected to have a 6,000 mAh battery.

The main difference between the XT2135-1/2 and XT2147-1 models is that the latter swaps the 108MP Samsung-made image sensor for a 64MP OmniVision-made one. The XT2147-1 model also has a 16MP front-facing image sensor rather than the 32MP one found in the XT2135-1/2 models. Apart from that, we’ve also learned that Motorola is working on several new camera features, including a new document mode, low light AI, smudge detection, and dual capture video. Some or all of these features will appear in the Moto G60.

In case some of these specifications sound familiar, it’s because the code-name, camera specifications, and RAM/storage were all previously reported on by both myself and Nils Ahrensmeier at TechnikNews. However, XDA can now reveal the phone’s name, share additional specs, and corroborate most of the already-reported specifications. The only spec we couldn’t confirm is the chipset, though TecknikNews reports the Moto G60 will feature the Qualcomm Snapdragon 732G chipset.

We do not know exactly when the Moto G60 will launch, but we suspect that it will launch soon. The phone has already been certified by the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) and the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), so a launch should not be too far off.

Attachable game triggers and a droid case revealed as accessories for the OnePlus 9 series

OnePlus will release attachable game triggers alongside the OnePlus 9 series on March 23. The accessory will seemingly provide users with physical buttons they can use when playing games, rather than forcing players to press onscreen buttons. The use of attachable buttons provides an experience that feels closer to console gaming.

There isn’t much information about the attachable triggers, which was first shared by Twitter user TheBookIsClosed. But the OnePlus India Twitter account did confirm they’ll be compatible with the OnePlus 9R, which we recently learned will be a gaming smartphone releasing in India. We also know the device will offer a flagship experience, but at a more affordable price.

In addition to attachable game triggers, OnePlus is also preparing to release a handful of cases for the OnePlus 9 series, including a “droid” case. OnePlus CEO Pete Lau shared a render of the case after it was leaked on Twitter (also by TheBookIsClosed). The case appears to re-introduce the “OnePlus Droid” that made its debut with the OnePlus 5T.

“Maybe some of you remember this from when we released the OnePlus 5T,” Lau said on Twitter, with a GIF showing the OnePlus Droid jumping through a city. “And since then some of you have been asking to see more of the ‘OnePlus Droid.’”

The droid case is one of four cases leaked online. Price Baba shared a render of all the different cases set for release, three of which feature more traditional designs. The report claims these cases will be available for the OnePlus 9 Pro, but chances are they’ll also be available for the OnePlus 9 and maybe even the OnePlus 9R.

As we near the OnePlus 9 series announcement on March 23, very little information is unknown at this point. We haven’t heard official word about how much these new devices will cost, or when they’ll launch. But we’ll get that information soon enough. If you need to get yourself caught up, we have you covered.

Here’s an early look at the OnePlus Watch before next week’s launch

The OnePlus Watch will finally launch next Tuesday where the company is also expected to unveil the OnePlus 9 series of smartphones. Just days before that happens, we now have an official press render of the upcoming smartwatch, and it looks fairly similar to the Samsung Galaxy Watch Active.

The render was shared on Twitter by popular YouTuber Lewis George Hilsenteger, AKA Unbox Therapy. The official OnePlus Twitter account retweeted the post, both confirming the legitimacy of this render and suggesting that this was a planned collaboration. In any case, we can see that the OnePlus Watch has a clean-looking design with two buttons on the right and silicone straps that are attached via lugs at the top and bottom. The display has a black bezel around it and should have an OLED panel. Combined with a dark watch face, the display should seem immersive.

Just a few days back, we reported on some of the leaked specifications of the OnePlus Watch. According to tipster Ishan Agarwal, the OnePlus Watch will come in a 46mm diameter size and feature two color options: Silver and Black. It is expected to feature an IP68 rating for dust and water-resistance. The watch will also come with calling capabilities, allowing users to make or answer phone calls, as well as show notifications and control music on your smartphone. It is expected to feature 4GB of onboard storage along with Warp Charge technology that is expected to provide a week’s battery life in 20 minutes of charging. A unique software feature of the OnePlus Watch is that it will double up as a remote control if you have a OnePlus TV at home.

For those who are into fitness, the watch is expected to come with automatic workout detection, heart rate monitoring, a swimming mode, sleep tracking, stress tracking, and an SpO2 sensor. With that in mind, the watch will offer a variety of activity tracking modes. As for the operating system, OnePlus CEO Pete Lau has confirmed that the OnePlus Watch will feature a custom operating system that was developed based on an RTOS rather than Google’s Wear OS. “[W]e believe it provides you a smooth and reliable experience while offering a great battery life, covering some of the biggest concerns we’ve been hearing from people looking to buy a smartwatch,” said Lau responding to a user on the OnePlus Community forums.
