Xbox Series X and Series S Restocks: When, where, and how to buy Microsoft’s new gaming console

It’s time for a new gaming console generation, so you know what that means… time to hopelessly try to get a new console! Like most new generational launches, the Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S is difficult to find, and many are left waiting for seconds-long Xbox Series X and S restocks. It’s a frustrating situation for sure, and while we can’t offer you a surefire way to get an Xbox Series X or Series S, we can help by gathering everything you need to know in one place. Check out the below and happy hunting!

By the way, we also have a restock guide for the PlayStation 5!

When and where will the Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S be restocked?

While we believe the information below is accurate, it’s important to note that sometimes restocks don’t happen as planned. Restocks may go up late, websites may break, or retailers may just change their minds. This information is to help you plan for possible restocks.

Stock for the new Xbox series of systems seems to be doing a bit better than the PlayStation 5, but it’s still difficult to grab one. A Microsoft spokesperson even told CNET that stock will be limited until April 2021.

Thankfully, Best Buy is coming to save the holiday, sort of. They announced on Twitter that there will be Xbox Series console stock on December 15 at 8 AM CT. This restock will be handled a little differently than orders in the past, with the stock only being able to be ordered online, but also only being available via curbside pickup. This appears to be an effort to stop bot orders from going through, as curbside pickup may be a deterrent for some resellers. However, that also means the Xbox Series X or S needs to be in stock at your store in order to purchase one.

Amazon has occasionally been dropping stock of the new consoles, but it’s often without warning. You can check the store page occasionally, but it’s often best that you follow Twitter accounts or bots that provide minute-to-minute updates on the Xbox Series consoles for grabbing one on.

If you really need an Xbox Series X or S before Christmas, you can pick one up for an inflated price at StockX. Xbox prices seem to be less inflated than the PlayStation 5, at least! Also, StockX is a bit safer at the moment for buying a reseller console. eBay is unfortunately full of misleading listings and flat out scams. If you’re going this route, stick with StockX!

General advice for restocks

Trying to get your hands on something with limited stock is really, really stressful. Make sure to give yourself the best chance you can by following the advice below!

  • Make sure you have an account at the store, and all personal information is updated. Restocks of popular items like the Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S put huge strains on websites. On top of that, when it comes to items like these, retailers will only allow you to hold it in your cart for a few minutes. Don’t waste your chance trying to update your address or payment information!
  • Start refreshing the page early. Often, retailers won’t put stock up at EXACTLY the moment they say. It may be a few minutes early or late. Get to the store page of the item you want before the restock time. You might get lucky!
  • Use Ctrl+F5, not just F5. This gives you a hard refresh, that doesn’t pull store information from the cache. So, you won’t get outdated information and will be able to see the “Buy” button as soon as possible!
  • It’s usually better to be on the computer, rather than your phone. While that is not always the case, mobile websites aren’t always optimized for fast refreshing. Or optimized for mobile viewing at all, sometimes. However, sometimes you can have better luck on a mobile app than a browser site. It’s not very often, though, so it’s best to start trying with your computer browser, first.

Apple releases iOS 14.3 with fixes for wireless charging and missed message notifications

Over the past few weeks, iOS users have complained about a number of major issues, including missed message notifications, app folders failing to open, and even new iPhones failing to recognize wireless chargers. Thanks to the release of iOS 14.3 on Monday, those issues have finally been fixed.

According to the iOS 14.3 changelog (via 9to5Mac), Apple has addressed many of the known issues people have complained about over the past few weeks. I actually ran into the wireless charging issue over the weekend. My brand new iPhone 12 suddenly stopped working with a couple wireless chargers I have in my apartment, so I had to restart the device for it to start working again. Luckily, iOS 14.3 fixes that.

iOS 14.3 update

People have also complained about not receiving Messages notifications, which isn’t exactly conducive to carrying on a conversation. The Verge recently wrote about the problem, highlighting a number of complaints from users who have updated to iOS 14. The latest update to iOS 14.3 addresses a number of other problems, too, including Bluetooth being unavailable in settings and issues with the MagSafe Duo Charger.

The release of iOS 14.3 also includes a number of new features, such as support for Apple Fitness+, the company’s new fitness service, and Apple AirPods Max, the company’s high-end over-ear headphones. Additionally, the update introduces support for ProRAW photos, which can be captured on the iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max. Unfortunately, ProRAW isn’t supported by the iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 mini, although there are a few other camera improvements for everyone.

The arrival of iOS 14.3 is actually Apple’s biggest release since iOS 14 was rolled out in September. There are plenty of new features and fixes right ahead of the holidays, so you should update as soon as possible. If you own an iOS device, the update is available now and clocks in at around 740MB.

PlayStation 5 Restocks: When, where, and how to buy Sony’s new gaming console

The PlayStation 5 has, in short, been a nightmare to actually get your hands on, so far. With the limited pre-order stock, site outages, and random seconds-long PlayStation 5 restocks, consumers are being left frustrated and without a (massive) new console to adorn their entertainment center. It’s a frustrating situation for sure, and while we can’t offer you a surefire way to get a PlayStation 5, we can help by gathering everything you need to know in one place. Check out below and happy hunting!

By the way, we also have a restock guide for the Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S!

When and where will the PlayStation 5 be restocked?

While we believe the information below is accurate, it’s important to note that sometimes restocks don’t happen as planned. Restocks may go up late, websites may break, or retailers may just change their minds. This information is to help you plan as much as possible for possible restocks.

Things might look a bit rough, but there is hope for some PlayStation 5 restocks! Sony has announced via Twitter that more PS5s will come in stock throughout December:

Best Buy has thankfully announced a restock of the PlayStation 5 consoles for December 15 at 8 AM CT via their Twitter. This restock will be handled a little differently than orders in the past, with the stock only being able to be ordered online, but also only being available via curbside pickup. This appears to be an effort to stop bot orders from going through, as curbside pickup may be a deterrent for some resellers. However, that also means the PlayStation 5 needs to be in stock at your store in order to purchase one.

Your next best bet at this time will be with PlayStation Direct, who is doing something a little different with their PlayStation 5 restocks. They allow you to enter a queue daily, giving you a chance to order the PlayStation 5 or PlayStation 5 Digital Edition. So far, this seems to be a more effective method of trying for the PlayStation 5, but being in the queue doesn’t guarantee a console.

Amazon has the consoles come in and out of stock at random intervals. If you check in occasionally, you may get lucky. However, with no way of knowing when they’ll come in stock, it’s hard to recommend them unless you’re also following a bot or Twitter account that follows stock from minute to minute.

Some other retailers had console stock during Black Friday, but have been silent about PlayStation 5 availability for the rest of the holiday season. Hopefully, we’ll know more soon!

Finally, if you don’t mind paying a hugely inflated price, you can pick up a PlayStation 5 from StockX. While it’s not something I’d recommend, if you need a PlayStation 5 in time for your holidays, then StockX will be the better reseller place to buy from. Unfortunately, eBay is rife with misleading listings that can turn your happy holidays into something miserable.

Woot! has Canakit Raspberry Pi 4 kits on sale, but they’re only available today

I have always been fascinated with the Raspberry Pi. A mini-computer that you get to build yourself, the Raspberry Pi is perfect for someone that wants to make a physical emulation box. Someone like, well, me. Thanks to Woot!, now I (and others) can pick up a nifty little kit at a nice discount.

Today only at Woot!, you can pick up some Canabalt Raspberry Pi 4 starter kits for either yourself or as a last-minute gift for that techie in your life with everything. There are three kits you can choose from: The 2GB Starter Kit, the 4GB Starter Kit Max, or the Kit for Dummies. The last one is perfect for someone who wants to build the Raspberry Pi but is nervous about building one without any guidance. Depending on what you’re going for, you can even outfit your new mini-computer with OmniROM and Android 11!

But, like I mentioned above, one of the main ways I’ve seen people use the Pi is to make it into a physical emulation box. Having an easy way to hook up and play retro games is in very high demand, and building a customer Raspberry Pi is a very cost and space-effective way to enjoy all your old classics.

But for most of the people currently reading this, I would recommend the 4GB RAM Starter Kit, which is available for $90. This will include everything that you need to build the Raspberry Pi, including a 64GB SD card with NOOBS pre-loaded on it. You might need to pick up a bigger SD card depending on what you’re using your Pi for, but that’s a cheap and easy replacement.

Also, since it’s Woot!, you’ll get free shipping if you’re an Amazon Prime member. On top of that, you’ll even get the kit before Christmas! Talk about a last-minute gift.

    Raspberry Pi 4 Starter Kits
Looking to try your hand at building your own mini-computer? Woot! has Raspberry Pi Starter Kits on sale for today only! Pick between the 2GB, 4GB, or For Dummies starter kit and get your new project in before Christmas.

Don’t sleep on this deal, though–you only have until the end of the day to grab it!

Zoom is now available on the Google Nest Hub Max

We all know the holidays will look a little different this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Luckily, there are a million ways to stay connected with friends and family, including hosting a video call using Zoom on the Google Nest Hub Max, which is available now.

You can already use the Nest Hub Max to host video chats using Google Meet or Duo. But as Zoom has increased in popularity over the last several months, owners of the Nest Hub Max have been waiting for support for the Google Nest Hub Max to come.

Google said that Nest Hub Max owners should see an early preview of Zoom calling beginning today. If you have a Zoom account — free or paid — you should see support in the U.S., U.K., Canada, and Australia. In order to use Zoom on Google’s smart display, you’ll need to link your Zoom account to your Google account.

Once your account is linked, you can say, “Hey Google, start a zoom call,” and you’ll be up and running on your Nest Hub Max. If you want to send out a Zoom invite to others, just get your Zoom meeting ID and friends and family will be able to join from their phone, tablet, computer, or smart display.

We knew this day would come. Back in August, Zoom announced that its video conferencing software would come to a variety of smart displays in addition to the Google Nest, including Facebook Portal and Amazon Echo Show. With smart displays becoming a more common gadget in people’s homes, it’s great to see that there are so many video conferencing options available.

As an added bonus for today’s announcement, Google said its WiFi and Nest WiFi products are being improved by auto-detecting and prioritizing video conferencing on Meet and Zoom meetings. Hopefully that means no more stuttering or frozen calls.

We know how difficult it is not seeing family over the holidays. In the event you can’t do something in-person, a video call is the next best thing, and the arrival of Zoom on the Nest Hub Max comes just at the right time.

Sony Xperia 1 II starts receiving stable Android 11 update

At the end of November, Sony unveiled a roadmap for when its devices would get Android 11, with the first device receiving the update this month. True to its word, the company has initialized an OTA (software version 58.1.A.0.921) for the Sony Xperia 1 II.

Xperia Blog has confirmed that Sony is rolling out Android 11 for the Xperia 1 II. The device, which was originally introduced in Sony’s native Japan in May of this year, is one of the company’s most exciting smartphones, so it’s only natural to be first on the list. This is more or less the schedule that Sony ran with last year when updating its devices to Android 10.

Android 11 update for Xperia 1 II changelog:

Xperia 1 II (Mark 2)
New update: 58.1.A.0.921 (Security patch: 1 November 2020)
Old update: 58.0.A.3.224 (Security patch: 1 November 2020)

Xperia 1 II Android 11 new features
Cinema Pro app adds support for 4K HDR 120fps slow motion video recording (previously 4K HDR 60fps)
Photo Pro app adds new MR mode to set/save frequently used options
5G+4G dual SIM dual-standby capability (previously 4G+4G dual-standby)
BatteryCare now provides custom options for 80% and 90%.
Screen recording added to notification bar
New wallpapers
Long press power button brings smart home control
Wi-Fi and hotspot can be turned on at same time
Modem (baseband version) updated

The Android 11 update appears to be first rolling out to devices in Taiwan, and like other OTA updates, it’ll be a process in case something happens. The download clocks in at 933.9MB, and includes new features such as Chat bubbles, a built-in screen recorder, power menu smart controls, and enhanced privacy controls. Sony has also added some of its own features, including a BatteryCare setting that limits the maximum charge to 80% or 90%. There’s also 5G support for dual-SIM stand-by and 4K HDR 20fps slow-motion recording in the Cinema Pro app.

Xperia 1 II Android 11 update

This same update also includes the November 2020 security patch, despite the December 2020 security patch already rolling out to some devices. Perhaps Sony will release a more updated security patch in the next few weeks. We’ll see how everything shakes out as the Android 11 update is rolled out across the globe, which is likely to happen over the course of this week.

The rollout of Android 11 for the Xperia 1 II lines up with the timeline Sony revealed in November. If Sony keeps its promise, we should see Android 11 made available for the Xperia 5 II and Xperia 10 II around the end of January 2021, following by the Xperia 1 and Xperia 5 sometime in February 2021.
