AMD Ryzen 5000 series desktop CPU start at ₹22,990 in India

AMD launched its latest Ryzen 5000 series of desktop processors with the new Zen 3 architecture last month. A total of four SKUs were announced and the company had confirmed that the US pricing of the new CPU lineup would be between $299 to $799. Today, we have confirmation of the official India pricing for the Ryzen 5000 CPU range. As per AMD India, the new Ryzen 5 5600X would be priced at ₹22,990, the Ryzen 7 5800X at ₹34,490, the Ryzen 9 5900X at ₹41,990, and the mighty powerful Ryzen 9 5950X at₹60,990. Note that these prices are excluding taxes, which means that there will be an additional GST of 18% charged by retailers.

The new series is led by Ryzen 9 5950X CPU which is claimed to offer the highest single-thread and multi-core performance of any desktop gaming processor. The flagship processor comes with 16 cores and 32 threads with a peak CPU clock speed of 4.9GHz. Moving down, the 12-core 5900X processor comes with a peak CPU clock speed of 4.8GHz. It brings a 26% generational uplift (compared to the Ryzen 9 3900XT) in gaming performance and a 19% generational increase in instructions per cycle (IPC). The processor is also said to be 7% faster than the competition (Intel Core i9-10900K) in 1080p gaming and an average of 26% faster in 1080p gaming generationally (Ryzen 9 3900XT). The mid-tier Ryzen Ryzen 7 5800X comes with 8-cores, 16-threads, and a peak clock speed of 4.7GHz. While the most affordable option is the Ryzen 5 5600X which comes with 6-cores, 12 threads, and peak CPU clock speeds of 4.6GHz.

Product SKU US Pricing India Pricing
AMD Ryzen 5 5600X $299 ₹22,990
AMD Ryzen 7 5800X $449 ₹34,490
AMD Ryzen 9 5900X $549 ₹41,990
AMD Ryzen 9 5950X $799 ₹60,990

The 5800X, 5900X, and the 5950X are all rated at 105W TDP. The 5600X, on other hand, is rated at 65W TDP. AMD had also confirmed during the official launch that the existing AMD 500 series motherboards will support the new Ryzen 5000 Series desktop processors. The user will only have to update the BIOS. As for the availability, the Ryzen 5000 series desktop processors will be available for purchase in the US starting today. As for India, the chips might take a few days or weeks to reach retailers.

Additionally, AMD had also announced the ‘Equipped to Win’ game bundle program for its customers. If you purchase either the Ryzen 9 5950X, Ryzen 9 5900X, or the Ryzen 7 5800X processor, then you get a free copy of Far Cry 6 (when it’s released) if a purchase is made before December 31, 2020. The program has also been extended to the previous-gen lineup if customers buy the Ryzen 9 3950X, Ryzen 9 3900XT, or Ryzen 7 3800XT processor between October 20th and December 31st, 2020.

The new Google Pay (Tez) icon is supposedly a wallet

The Google Pay app for the Indian region was recently rebuilt from the ground up with Flutter. The updated app was released in September this year, and it featured some minor design changes. Now, Google is rolling out a new icon for the app with its latest beta update.

The new Google Pay icon was first spotted by Twitter user @isumantada, who also shared a screenshot of the app’s updated splash screen. As you can see in the attached screenshots, the new icon looks like a 3D version of the Squarespace icon made using the four Google colors. While the icon follows Google’s minimalist icon aesthetic, it’s a far cry from the current Google Pay icon, and that might cause unnecessary confusion among users.

google-pay-new-logo-1

Although Google is yet to reveal the inspiration behind the new icon design, the name of the icon file extracted from the latest APK gives us some much-needed insight. The file is called “logo_billfold,” which suggests that Google was trying to recreate a minimal wallet (billfold=wallet). However, the final product looks nothing like a billfold or even folded bills for that matter.

It’s worth noting that Google recently released new icons for several of its apps and services, including Gmail, Google Calendar, Drive, Docs, and Meet. And while many users expressed their displeasure with these icons as well, at least they look somewhat similar to the outgoing icons. The new Google Pay icon, on the other hand, just doesn’t make sense.

What’s your take on the new Google Pay icon? Does it look like a wallet? Let us know in the comments section below.

Motorola Moto G9 Power goes official with a 64MP primary camera and 6,000mAh battery

Following up on the Moto G9 Play launch in September, Motorola today announced yet another model in its Moto G series: Moto G9 Power. The Moto G9 Power is a direct successor to the last year’s Moto G8 Power and brings along an improved primary camera, a bigger battery, and a slightly bigger display.

Moto G9 Power: Specifications

Other Features
  • Rear-mounted fingerprint reader
  • MicroSD card support
  • 3.5mm headphone jack

  • Android 10

On the front, the Moto G9 Power flaunts a 6.8-inch IPS LCD HD+ display with a resolution of 1640 x 720, which is a step down from its predecessor’s Full HD+ display. This phone’s biggest upgrade is the primary camera, with the phone now packing a 64MP f/1.8 sensor compared to the previous 16MP shooter. Other sensors include 2MP macro and 2MP depth sensors. The front shooter is a 16MP sensor.

Powering the device from the inside is a Qualcomm Snapdragon 662 SoC, a rather strange move considering the Moto G8 Power had a Snapdragon 665. The Snapdragon 662 is exactly the same as the Snapdragon 665 in CPU and GPU areas, but it does have a slightly inferior modem. The phone comes in only one variant packing 4GB of RAM and 128GB onboard storage.

Another important upgrade on the Moto G9 Power is a bigger 6,000 mAh battery, up from 5,000 mAh on the last model, which Motorola claims lasts up to 60 hours. The phone comes via a 20W fast charger that comes inside the box.

Moto G9 Power 3.5mm jack Moto G9 Power charging port

On the software front, the Moto G9 Power runs a near-stock version of Android 10 with a handful of Motorola’s customizations on top. Other specs of the phone include a rear-mounted fingerprint reader, microSD card expansion support, Bluetooth 5.0, NFC, a 3.5mm jack, and a single bottom-firing speaker.

Pricing & Availability

The Moto G9 Power comes in two colors: Metallic Sage and Electric Violet. The device is priced at £179/€199, but Motorola hasn’t yet revealed the exact availability details for Europe and other markets.

The latest version of Xiaomi’s custom Android skin – MIUI 12 – is finally here. The company has dropped the curtain yesterday, alongside the Mi 10 Youth Edition launch event in China. Compared to MIUI 11, the stable version of which was released less than six months ago, MIUI 12 brings in a slew of improvements, visual overhauls, and many new features. We have already extracted the new wallpapers, and now we are presenting the downloading links of the first set of MIUI 12 beta firmware packages for a bunch of Xiaomi and Redmi devices.

It is worth mentioning that these closed beta builds are meant for the Chinese variants, as Xiaomi suspended the rollout of MIUI global beta since last year. As a consequence, you have to flash these recovery ROMs using TWRP to bypass the MIUI beta account whitelisting. Do not expect Google Play Services or any pre-installed Google apps in them. Language options are likely limited to English and Chinese only, too. Xiaomi did launch MIUI 12 globally, and we are waiting for builds to appear for that too. Meanwhile, you can try out the closed betas from China.

The beta MIUI 12 builds listed below are based on either Android 10 or Android 11, depending on the device. If you are looking for MIUI 12 stable releases, you can find those here.

You can download the latest beta of MIUI 12 for your device from the links below. You can also visit our linked forums in case you need further assistance. While all of these download links are directly from Xiaomi, users are advised to proceed at their own risk. We warn you once again, this is not intended for the average consumer and is recommended only for users comfortable with flashing ROMs.

WhatsApp’s Disappearing Messages feature will roll out this month

WhatsApp will start rolling out its highly anticipated Disappearing Messages feature this month. The feature, which has been in development for the last few months, will let users share messages, images, videos, and GIFs on the platform that will automatically disappear after seven days.

In case you missed our previous coverage, WhatsApp has been working on the Disappearing Messages feature since March this year. The feature made its way to the beta channel with WhatsApp 2.20.197.4 beta in July, a couple of months after which it received support for media files. Just a few days ago, WhatsApp shared an FAQ section on its website, revealing additional information about the feature. The company has now officially announced that it will start rolling to all WhatsApp users this month.

In a recent post on Facebook Newsroom, the company wrote: “We’re starting with seven days because we think it offers peace of mind that conversations aren’t permanent, while remaining practical so you don’t forget what you were chatting about…We hope people enjoy disappearing messages, which will be rolling out to users everywhere this month.”

Once the feature rolls out, WhatsApp users will see a new “Disappearing Messages” setting in the app. When enabled, the feature will allow users to share disappearing messages, images, videos, and GIFs with each other. In individual chats, either user will have the option to turn on disappearing messages. In group chats, however, only the group admin will have the ability to enable/disable the feature.

Sadly, WhatsApp’s disappearing messages feature won’t offer any security measures to deter recipients from saving the content of the disappearing messages or taking a screenshot before they expire. Recipients will also be able to forward disappearing messages, and the sender won’t be alerted of the same. Similarly, media shared using the feature will be automatically saved to the recipient’s device if they have auto-download turned on, and it won’t be removed from their device even when the original message disappears from the chat. The lack of such security measures makes disappearing messages a less than favorable addition.

It’s worth noting that WhatsApp recently added a new storage management tool to the app, which is a far more useful addition than the half-baked disappearing messages feature. You can learn more about it by following this link.

Samsung’s ISOCELL Vizion 33D is a 3D ToF sensor that could be coming to your next smartphone

After launching four new sensors as part of its ISOCELL 0.7μm product lineup earlier in September this year, Samsung has now added a new ToF sensor to its portfolio. The new ISOCELL Vizion 33D sensor offers enhanced depth-sensing capabilities for “best-in-class photography and AR/VR experiences.” Samsung claims that its new ToF sensor can be used for a variety of applications, ranging from 3D scanning to implementing video bokeh effect, as it features the ability to track moving objects with low latency.

The ISOCELL Vizion 33D sensor features a 4-tap demodulation system and 120fps support for accurate tracking of moving objects. The demodulation system allows each pixel in the sensor to receive four phase signals simultaneous (0°, 90°, 180°, and 270°), allowing the sensor to generate a depth image with just a single frame. This system also reduces motion artifacts significantly.

Samsung further adds that the ISOCELL Vizion 33D sensor is capable of accurately detecting the depth of an object up to 5 meters with high accuracy in both indoor and outdoor environments. And using ISOCELL’s pixel technology, the sensor can accurately separate objects from the background to deliver a 3D bokeh effect. The sensor also includes Deep Trench Isolation technology (DTI), which maximizes isolation between pixels to reduce crosstalk, and Backside Scattering Technology (BST) to enhance its quantum efficiency. Using these technologies, the sensor can generate high-precision depth images that can be used for secure facial authentication.

Along with the 3D applications, the ISOCELL Vizion 33D is also capable of assisting the main camera’s autofocus on mobile devices. The sensor has been designed to offer maximum power efficiency in 3D applications, and it has a total power consumption of under 400mW for both the IR illuminator and the ToF sensor.
