These are the best OnePlus 8T screen protectors

For all of the OnePlus 8 and the OnePlus 8 Pro’s good and bad things, there was one new feature that irked some fans: the curved displays on both phones. Last year, only the OnePlus 7 Pro featured a curved display. But that extended to the 8 Pro as well as the regular 8 this year. For what it’s worth, the OnePlus 8T rolled back to a flat display, but you will still want a good screen protector to go with it.

The fact that it’s flat doesn’t mean it’s unbreakable. And we know you don’t want to crack your shiny new OnePlus 8T’s display, which is why we’ve compiled the best screen protectors you can get for your OnePlus 8T so you can add an extra layer of protection to it. Whether you prefer plastic protectors or tempered glass, don’t worry – we have you covered.

OnePlus 8T Official 3D Tempered Glass Screen Protector

    Simple and Effective

The official OnePlus 8T tempered glass screen protector by OnePlus provides high-quality basic, yet effective functionality, but also comes at a premium compared to other offerings.
OnePlus 8T Supershieldz Tempered Glass Screen Protector

    Dirt-Cheap Protection

Supershieldz' offerings are decent as far as dirt-cheap screen protectors go, and they sell a two-pack of ultra-cheap tempered glass protectors for the OnePlus 8T.
OnePlus 8T WRJ 9H Hardness Tempered Glass Screen Protector

Does the Job on a Budget

WRJ is a rising player in the screen protector marketplace, and their OnePlus 8T offering has good reviews, excellent pricing, and comes with 3 tempered glass protectors.
OnePlus 8T QITAYO Screen + Camera Tempered Glass Protector

    Additional Camera Protection

This QITAYO tempered glass protector kit comes with 3 screen protectors as well as 2 protectors for the camera lens, adding extra protection to a component that's often overlooked.
    OnePlus 8T MediaDevil Glass-Free Ultra-Tough Screen Protector

    A Decent Plastic Alternative

Most screen protectors listed on Amazon are tempered glass, but MediaDevil offers a no-glass thin alternative that offers decent impact protection and hardness.
OnePlus 8T Luibor Tempered Glass Screen Protector + Clear TPU Case

    With a Case to Match

This tempered glass kit by Luibor comes with 3 tempered glass protectors and a clear TPU case that should provide decent all-around protection for your new device.
OnePlus 8T LK Tempered Glass Screen Protector 9H Hardness 4-Pack

    Lots of Replacements

This tempered glass kit by LK comes with a whopping 4 total tempered glass screen protectors, so you can easily replace one if it breaks for whatever reason.
OnePlus 8T Mr. Shield Tempered Glass Screen Protector 9H Hardness

    With Lifetime Replacements

Mr. Shield is a decent brand of screen protectors, and they have one for the OnePlus 8T as well. The company also promises lifetime replacements if something happens to yours.
OnePlus 8T UniqueMe Tempered Glass W/ Installation Frame

    Easier-Than-Ever Installation

This tempered glass solution from UniqueMe comes with 4 protectors and an installation frame that makes aligning and installing a screen protector easier than ever.

Looking for variety while in the market for a screen protector might be complicated. But, there’s a lot if you look closely. Mostly depending on what fits you better for your device and your own usage. The official OnePlus 8T tempered protector does the job pretty well. It’s my personal favorite, too. But it comes at a pretty penny, just like the other official accessories such as cases, and you only get one protector. That said, it’s guaranteed to work and fit properly on your OnePlus 8T!

If you’re on a budget, then you can choose from brands with a reputation. Some of these are Supershieldz, LK, MediaDevil, and Mr. Shield. All of these brands have sold products for a heck ton of devices from different companies. There are also several alternatives, such as plastic protectors for those that are not fans of glass ones. These screen protectors normally bring better protection against impacts, at the expense of losing scratch resistance. And some options also come with extra perks, such as a camera protector in the case of QITAYO, an extra TPU clear case in the case of Luibor, and an installation frame in the case of UniqueMe for easy installation.

Apple accelerates efforts towards building its own search engine to replace Google

Apple is said to be accelerating efforts towards its own search engine, to be rolled out on its products instead of Google. Reports suggest that Apple is moving quickly to avoid being mired in the upcoming anti-trust action being taken against Google by the US Government.

There’s already early evidence of the move in iOS14, launched last month, where Apple’s own search results appear when using the device’s home screen search box. The bottom line is, if Apple can do that, it can produce an entire search engine, and if it has gotten this far, it suggests that’s what the end-game will be.

There’s nothing on the subject from Apple – but then there rarely is until something is launched. The FT report suggests that the hiring of John Giannandrea, Google’s former Head of Search in 2018 could have fired the starting gun on the project, which could also see Siri functionality improved by parsing from a dedicated search tool. It also points to repeated job advertisements for search-related developers as a dead-giveaway. Additionally, those monitoring Applebot, Apple’s web-crawler have said it has been more active in recent months, suggesting that it has advanced from simply serving Siri and Spotlight results.

Apple is currently paid between $8 billion and $12 billion each year, by Google, to be the default search engine for Apple products. That hasn’t gone unnoticed by the litigators involved in Google’s forthcoming anti-trust battle with the US Department of Justice, who listed the agreement as an example of anti-competitive and exclusionary practice by the tech giant. Although Apple is the beneficiary, not the accused, it has been criticized for acting as Google’s “enabler” by accepting the terms.

Although Google’s DoJ fight is likely to go on for years, Apple will be acutely aware that, if it doesn’t go Google’s way, Google could find itself broken up or otherwise restricted. And that could leave Apple’s annual multi-billion dollar windfall in jeopardy. So it makes sense that $2 trillion company has opted to be safe rather than sorry.

These are the best OnePlus 8T cases

If you just pre-ordered a sweet new OnePlus 8T (and if not, check out our OnePlus 8T review) you’ll want to make sure you can prevent fingerprints, scratches, and dust. There are literally hundreds of phone cases on the market, but how do you know if you’re buying a delight or a duffer? Allow us to help with our guide to the best OnePlus 8T cases.

As usual, there’s a basic plastic skin in the box – clear vinyl, flexible, snug-fitting, and this year, emblazoned with a ‘frosted“ ‘Never Settle’ slogan running vertically up the right-hand side. It’s a nice touch that makes it more appealing than a simple clear case, but this kind of case offers limited protection considering its covering your sleek new phone’s contours. But what if you want more?

    Official OnePlus 8T Sandstone Case

    Good old faithful

The old classic is back. The sandstone is a rigid clip-on case which previous OnePlussers will probably be familiar with. The big attraction of this one is that it has a slightly rough-hewn surface which makes it easier to grip because let's face it, these smooth phones can be slippery little suckers. The Sandstone case is available in Black or Cyan priced at $25.
    OnePlus 8T Quantum Bumper Case

    Polarizing yet unmissable

Easily the most divisive of this year’s official cases - the office was split on whether the multi-layered circuit board design, chosen to perfectly match the Aquamarine Green 8T, is ‘the most beautiful case OnePlus has ever done’, or ‘fugly as sin’. Either way, it's an unmissable design with an ‘easy-grip’ texturing and enhanced impact resistance.
    OnePlus 8T Karbon Bumper Case

    The best official case

Old faithful of the OnePlus case world, the Karbon is at the top end of the official designs. The familiar hard case with subtle diagonal pin-stripes is designed to add the maximum in knock and drop protection, with the lowest profile, most sympathetic to your sexy new handset. That level of design comes at a premium of course, and the Karbon is available in black only, for $40.
    Otterbox Symmetry 8T Case

    Affordable premium protection

Otterbox doesn’t always make the most exciting cases, but they’re tough as old boots, and we mean that in the nicest possible way. Largely, the Symmetry is similarly low-profile like the official Karbon case, but with the added bonus of slightly raised edges around the camera and touchscreen, which provides much better protection if, say, your phone lands on its front. Symmetry cases comply with DROP+, which is measured as 3x the protection of a military-grade case, so your phone should be able to survive a few drops. The Otterbox Symmetry is available from Amazon at $38.
    dBrand OnePlus 8T Grip Case

    Perfect for customization

Once case. Many customizations. That’s the promise with dBrand, offering a 2mm thick case, including a design that encases the side buttons, protecting them whilst leaving more of the screen-free - an important consideration for a near bezel-less device. There are gripping edges down the sides which can be customized to your preferred color from a huge gamut and the whole thing reaches military protection ratings. dBrand also offers skins to be applied directly to the outer casing of your phone, but for full protection, the Grip Case is available for $29.95 for plain black - add $10 extra for colored grips.
    UAG 8T Plasma Series Case

    Best for butterfingers

Under Armor’s phone cases are among the toughest we’ve seen, combining a stiff translucent body with a rigid toughened frame. As a result, they do tend to add a bit of bulk to your phone, but even so, hardly any extra weight. As ever, it complies with Military Grade drop-protection standards and yet, thankfully, doesn't impact wireless charging or contactless payments. The translucent section is currently available in 'Ice' Blue which complements the handset perfectly. If you want big protection and don't mind making a bigger phone, this OnePlus 8T case should definitely be on your shortlist.
Olixar OnePlus 8T Leather-Style Wallet Stand Case

    Great value with great features

The first folio-style case to make our list, we've chosen Olixar's thanks to the company's track record for producing great value cases without compromising on quality. There are the usual carbon-fiber offerings on offer, but we've decided to shine a light on the Wallet Stand, thanks to its imitation leather, three card slots, plus one larger slot of notes or receipts, magnetic clasp, and full compatibility with wireless charging and NFC payments. The whole folio can be rejigged to create a stand for the phone - great for games and watching videos. There are likely to be hundreds of phone cases with almost identical designs, but Olixar has a sterling reputation, so it's our pick from amongst them. You can pick it up direct from Olixar's website for around $15
Simicoo OnePlus 8T Detachable Leather Wallet

    Swiss Army Knife of Cases

It's very easy to get lost amongst a sea of products that more or less look the same. This cowhide leather Simicoo product breaks that mold spectacularly with what we can only describe as a 'handbag' (or 'manbag'). The phone is kept in a matching slimline case that tucks into a specially designed slot in the wallet section. That wallet section is no slouch - there are 11 slots to cover everything from notes and credit cards to your earbuds. There's also a magnetic clasp, whilst the crucial pockets have zippers and there's still room for the whole thing to become a kickstand. It won't show off your phone, but if you want an all-in-one solution for your stuff, this could be perfect. It's available in a choice of Blue, Black, Brown or Red (which is actually pink).
Tereyi OnePlus 8T Ultra-Slim Patterened Silicone Case

    Best for Style over Substance

We chose this one purely to show you that not all cases for the OnePlus 8T are one color! These Tereyi cases are simple, transparent silicone cases, similar to the one you'll find in the box with your phone. But if you don't want to walk around for the next year with 'Never Settle' across the back of your phone, there are six decal designs to choose from - baby elephants, pandas, kittens, and of course the ubiquitous 'Live Laugh Love' slogan. Not the highest spec cases on this list, more one for the Insta-crowd. If that's you, hit up Amazon where they're around $15.

Our favorite pick of all the cases is the OnePlus 8T Karbon Bumper case. The Karbon series has been around since the early days of OnePlus and it’s proven consistently to be reliable. If you have slippery fingers and couldn’t transport an egg in the egg-and-spoon race at school, you’ll want to pick up the Otterbox Symmetry Case. If you want something a bit more unique, check out the Simicoo Detachable Leather Wallet!

Xiaomi Redmi Note 8 finally gets its MIUI 12 update with Android 10

The Xiaomi Redmi Note 8 was released last year alongside the Redmi Note 8 Pro and MIUI 11 for India. While the Redmi Note 8 Pro hogged all the limelight thanks to the gaming-focused MediaTek Helio G90T, the Redmi Note 8 flew under the radar for playing it safe with the Snapdragon 665, despite our review praising the phone. If you purchased the phone, here’s some good news for you: the Redmi Note 8 is finally receiving Android 10, and it comes along with MIUI 12 update.

The Redmi Note 8 launched in India with MIUI 10 based on Android 9 Pie. A bit after launch, the phone received its stable MIUI 11 update. While many other Xiaomi phones have received their MIUI 12 stable updates already, the Redmi Note 8 finally gets it on the Global region. The phone did previously get MIUI 12 based on Android, but the update was restricted to the Chinese region.

Download MIUI 12 on Android 10 for the Xiaomi Redmi Note 8 (codename: ginkgo) — v12.0.1.0.QCOMIXM

Keep in mind that this update is still considered as “stable-beta”. Stable-beta updates are only intended for users enrolled within the Mi Pilot beta testing program, meaning that builds assigned for this group will not install on devices with Mi Accounts that do not have the requisite permission. Once the Mi Pilot beta testers give positive feedback, the same build then gets opened up as a stable release, creating a lot of confusion — the same build might first fail to install, but then it will make an appearance through the official OTA. If you get the error message that the update is for closed beta testers only, you can sideload the update through TWRP. If Xiaomi finds that there are no showstopper bugs, the update will be opened up for all Redmi Note 8 users without any changes.

Microsoft will soon force-open some websites in Edge instead of Internet Explorer

Internet Explorer has had a long and meme-full life, and it is way beyond time to move on. The browser is actively being replaced by the Chromium-based Microsoft Edge browser, and the company has made clear its intention of sunsetting IE 11 sooner rather than later. If you are still using Internet Explorer 11 for your browsing needs, Microsoft will now refuse to open certain incompatible websites, and will instead force-open them on Microsoft Edge.

According to a report from ZDNet, users trying to access certain websites on Internet Explorer will find that they can no longer do so. IE will refuse the load the URL, and it will automatically open the website in the Edge browser instead. This forced IE-to-Edge behavior is part of Microsoft’s Internet Explorer deprecation plans and will be enabled with the release of Edge 87 that is scheduled for next month.

This behavior is enabled for only 1,1,56 websites and will be in force irrespective of whether you navigate to these sites through a hyperlink click or you manually enter the URL. Some of the entries in this list include YouTube, Instagram, Twitter, Yahoo Mail, StackOverflow, StackExchange, GoDaddy, and more. The report provides a video to showcase the new forced behavior:

Internet Explorer will provide an explanation for why it couldn’t load the website. Enterprise customers can change some aspects of this intrusive behavior. This change is also only present on computers where both Edge and IE are installed.

Considering how Internet Explorer has dropped off in popularity, this change does not really affect all that many users, of which retail consumers are even fewer. But just in case you are still holding on to Internet Explorer and not choosing to opt for Microsoft Edge, Mozilla Firefox, or Google Chrome, know that your internet experience is likely to remain sub-par and even deteriorate over the coming weeks and months.
