Gmail, Calendar, Drive, Docs, Meet, etc. get new icons and features as part of G Suite’s rebranding into Google Workspace

Earlier this year in July, we learned that Google was working on integrating Docs, Chat, and Meet with Gmail. And soon after the first leak popped up, Google announced the integration as an early access preview for G Suite customers. The company has now gone ahead and completely revamped G Suite as Google Workspace, with new features and icons for Gmail, Calendar, Drive, Docs, Meet, and more.

As per a blog post on the matter, the new Google Workspace offers all of the productivity apps in the company’s repertoire, including Gmail, Calendar, Drive, Docs, Sheets, Slides, and Meet, in one convenient location.

Thanks to this deeper integration, Google Workspace users will now be able to dynamically create and collaborate on a document with guests in a Chat room, share content, work together with others outside their organization, and ensure that everyone has access to the same information.

The company has also introduced a couple of new features for its services, including support for file previews in Docs, Sheets, and Slides, and support for @mention in documents that will bring up a smart chip with contact details.

Furthermore, the company plans to roll out Meet picture-in-picture support to Docs, Sheets, and Slides in the coming months. All these new integrations are currently limited to Google Workspace customers, but the company plans on bringing the new user experience to consumers in the coming months.

Along with the integrated user experience, the company has also adopted a new brand identity that “reflects our ambitious product vision and the way our products work together.” As part of the new brand identity, the company has now revealed new four-color icons for services like Gmail, Drive, Calendar, Meet, Docs, Sheets, and Slides. Additionally, the company has announced that it will offer more tailored offerings for new Google Workspace users. These include new editions for smaller businesses that are aimed at users who are looking to make fast, self-serviced purchases and editions for larger enterprises that are designed to help organizations that have more complex implementation needs and require technical assistance. Samsung announces Android 11-based One UI 3.0 public beta for the Galaxy S20 series

About a month ago, Samsung announced the One UI 3.0 beta program for Galaxy S20, Galaxy S20 Plus, and the Galaxy 20 Ultra. The initial beta was meant for the developer community and it was available for U.S. and Korean Galaxy S20 devices. While power users can manually sideload the developer beta build to try out Android 11, the company has now officially announced the beginning of the One UI 3.0 public beta program for the Galaxy S20 series.

As per a recent post on the “Beta notices” section of the Samsung Members app, the One UI 3.0 beta program is now publicly available for the Galaxy S20 lineup. As the builds are cumulative in nature, the upcoming first public beta (tagged as ZTJ3) should carry all the new features introduced in the previous developer preview build (software version ZTI7). The Android security patch level (SPL) has been bumped, while there are several improvements to Samsung’s own Android skin in the new firmware. For instance, the home screen and the quick panel designs have received a fresh coat of paint to make them compatible with different screen sizes.

Samsung has a history of testing new beta updates with customers in its home country of South Korea first so this announcement is something we’ve been waiting for. However, the actual rollout might take more time as suggested by the Beta Operation Manager of Samsung’s Korean Community Forums. The One UI 3.0 public beta with Android 11 for the U.S. variants of the Galaxy S20 will likely follow in the coming days, but there’s no word on it just yet.

If you’re a Samsung S20 series user, you can go ahead and participate in the One UI beta program right away. Do note that participation in the program requires a Samsung account, which you can create by heading over to this website. We hope that the beta program will be extended to a few other regions, including Europe and India, albeit we don’t have any information on the release timeline for the same.

The company has already started teasing the device, and we’ve seen plenty of leaks about its design and specifications so far. And we have reason to believe that these new wallpapers are the ones that will debut with the OnePlus 8T later this month. The newly added wallpapers are appended with “k” in the name and it also includes JSON config files for “kebab”, which is widely expected to be the code-name for the OnePlus 8T. Since OnePlus is known for adding the first letter of the device code-name to the wallpaper files, we believe that these new wallpapers are for the upcoming device. PUBG Mobile to get Payload 2.0 with new weapons and armed vehicles

Payload mode is making a comeback to PUBG Mobile. According to the information shared on the official Twitter account, Payload 2.0 is set to arrive soon. While the official release date has not been confirmed, certain sources claim that it could arrive on October 10. If you remember, the Payload mode was first introduced back in October 2019. However, it was pulled down earlier this year. This will also be the first big addition to the game ever since PUBG Mobile 1.0 was released last month.

For those who don’t know, Payload is based on the classic battle royale mode with the addition of heavier weaponry as well as the ability to fly helicopters. The mode included the M3E1-A rocket launcher, the MGL, and M79 grenade launchers, and RPG-7. It also included the ability to revive a dead teammate by picking up their ID Card and taking it to the nearest radio tower, similar to what we have seen on Apex Legends.

According to the leaked cinematic trailer, Payload 2.0 is expected to expand the previous concept with the addition of new weapons, armed vehicles, and the ability to hunt enemies using remote-controlled UAV. We can see a new rocket launch that looks like the M202 and a new radar system that lets you scan your area for vehicles. All the vehicles have also been upgraded with mounted weapons including rocket launchers, heavy machine guns, flamethrowers, and more. Notably, Payload 2.0 will make use of the newly released Erangel 2.0 map and the Chinese version of the game (Game for Peace) has already received the new mode in beta.

Here’s everything new that you can expect on the Payload 2.0 update for PUBG Mobile:

• Portable radar: As mentioned above, players will be able to use this radar at any location. This radar will help players to scan for vehicles including cars, helicopters, and boats on the minimap and also helps in spotting approaching vehicles with enemies.
• UAV: The mode will also include a new UAV or unmanned aerial vehicle. Players can summon these using a remote device to take down enemies. Notably, the UAV will fly only in a specific direction and players can control the onboard missile launcher.
• Bomb suit: A special full-body armor, the bomb suit will be able to absorb a considerable amount of damage when it’s worn.
• New Weapons: Two new weapons are expected to make an appearance on Payload 2.0. First is the AT4-A laser-guided missile, where players can use a laser to pinpoint the exact location where they want the missile to land. The second weapon will be the M202 four-barreled rocket launcher, a high-speed launcher that can quickly fire rockets back-to-back.
• New Vehicles: All the vehicles now come with weapons including the UAZ, Dacia, Buggy, and the addition of the Pickup. These will come with flamethrowers, machine guns, rocket launchers, as well as the ability to use these cars in the water thanks to inbuilt floaties and propellers. There is also a new advanced helicopter armed with machine guns that can be used by the passengers.
• Special Base: The map will also include some new buildings that will have a high amount of loot as well as the above mentioned advanced helicopter.

POCO C3 with MediaTek Helio G35, 5,000mAh battery, and triple cameras launched in India

Earlier this year in June, Xiaomi’s sub-brand Redmi launched the Redmi 9A and Redmi 9C in Malaysia. The devices featured MediaTek’s new Helio G25 and Helio G35 chipsets, large batteries, and a new design. Soon after the launch, we started hearing rumors that POCO was planning on rebranding the Redmi 9C as a new POCO device for the Indian market. A few weeks after the launch, the POCO C3 was spotted in a certification listing with the same model number as the Redmi 9C. Today, POCO finally unveiled the POCO C3 in India, and as expected, it’s a rebranded Redmi 9C with some minor tweaks.

First, let’s start with what’s different on the new POCO C3. POCO has made some minor changes to the back panel design of the Redmi 9C, and the POCO C3 has a two-tone pattern on the back panel with an anti-fingerprint texture that offers better grip. Speaking of fingerprints, the POCO C3 doesn’t offer a capacitive fingerprint scanner on the back, which can be found on the Redmi 9C.

Other than these minor tweaks, the device is exactly the same as the Redmi 9C. It is powered by MediaTek’s octa-core Helio G35 chipset, which features eight ARM Cortex-A53 cores clocked at up to 2.4GHz and an IMG PowerVR GE8320 GPU clocked at 680MHz.

The MediaTek Helio G35 on the POCO C3 is paired with up to 4GB of LPDDR4x RAM and up to 64GB of onboard storage. The device features a triple-slot SIM card tray with a dedicated microSD card slot for expansion up to 512GB. The smartphone has a 6.53-inch HD+ LCD, with a resolution of 1600 x 720 pixels and a waterdrop-style notch for the selfie camera.

In the camera department, the POCO C3 features a triple camera setup on the back enclosed within a square camera module along with the flash. It includes a 13MP primary camera, a 2MP depth sensor, and a 2MP macro camera. Over on the front, the device has a single 5MP selfie camera.

Powering the POCO C3 is a massive 5,000mAh battery that comes with a new software optimization called Better Battery 2.0. As far as the overall software experience is concerned, the POCO C3 runs POCO Clean Experience based on Xiaomi’s MIUI 12, which offers users a minimal UI and a promise of no ads. The software includes features like dark mode, icon personalization, an app drawer, quick search categories, and Google Discover Feed support.

As with all entry-level smartphones out there, the POCO C3 includes a 3.5mm headphone jack and a micro USB port for charging and data syncing. The device also features rubberized seals and a P2i Nano water-resistant coating to protect it against accidental splashes.

Pricing & Availability

The POCO C3 will be available in two RAM/storage variants which are priced as follows:

• 3GB+32GB: ₹7,999
• 4GB+64GB: ₹8,999

However, the price may increase in the future as the announcement slide that POCO showed during the live stream (see above) clearly mentions ‘Introductory Offer’. The device will be available in three color variants — Arctic Blue, Matte Black, and Lime Green — on Flipkart starting from October 16th. Samsung is discontinuing Bixby Vision’s augmented reality features

Samsung’s virtual assistant Bixby offers a Google Lens-like feature called Bixby Vision. The feature allows users to translate words, look for products online, identify landmarks, and much more. Bixby Vision also includes a dedicated AR Zone which offers a couple of interesting features, like the ability to create AR emoji and AR stickers, check out home decor in real-time, apply makeup, measure objects, and more. However, according to a recent Android Police report, these AR-powered features may not be around for much longer.

Samsung is reportedly pushing a notice to users trying to access Bixby Vision through the stock camera app, which states that the company is dropping support for the AR features by the end of this month. As you can see in the attached screenshot, the notice states:

“Thank you for using Bixby Vision. The AR features (Places, Makeup, Home Decor, Styling) on Bixby Vision will no longer be supported starting from the end of October. The AR features that have been supported by each country may be different. We apologize for any inconvenience caused. Thank you again for using Bixby Vision. We appreciate your continued interest and support.”

As of now, it isn’t clear if Samsung plans to remove all of the features available in the AR Zone or if some of the more useful ones, like Quick Measure, are going to stick around.

Samsung only mentions four of the nine features currently available on my device, including Places, Makeup, Home Decor, and Styling. So there might still be hope for some of the remaining features. It’s also worth mentioning that Samsung is only dropping support for Bixby Vision’s AR features, and this move shouldn’t have any effect on the other features offered by the service, like the recently added Quick Reader, Scene Describer, and Color Detector accessibility features.
