Twitter update now shows the most relevant search results first

Twitter is where a lot of people go to get their daily news. Not only that, but since the social networking platform is based on real-time events and communication, it's Twitter's job to bring the most relevant information to you first. That's why, in the latest Twitter update, the social network will now display more relevant tweets in searches first.

The best Twitter apps for Android

January 22, 2016

In the past, searching for something on Twitter would result in a list of reverse-chronological tweets, but unfortunately that doesn't always provide the most relevant information. Now when you search something on Twitter, you'll get a list of relevance-ordered tweets, allowing you to stay notified more easily.

It's a small update, really, but something that will definitely come in handy for many users.

Head to the Google Play Store link below to grab the latest Twitter update!

Previous updates

Live video support

December 14:The official Twitter app has finally gained support for live video broadcasting! Broadcasting live video is easy, too: just hit the Compose tweet button, then tap the camera icon. Tap Live, then Go Live to start broadcasting. Do note that your live video will be visible to anyone on Twitter or Periscope, not just your followers.

Comment ranking system

November 29: Twitter updated its app to implement a new comment ranking system, replacing the chronological approach with the comments Twitter thinks you'll want to see first based on a new popularity algorithm. While seeing comments from your friends and followers first makes sense, there is no way to go back to the old system. The asme update also added a Direct Reply counter on tweets.

QR codes

November 17: Twitter made getting new followers and following others easier by adding QR codes to the social platform. Simply swipe open the nav drawer and tap QR code. You can then use the reader to scan someone else's QR code or bring up your own code to let someone else follow you in an instant.

Twitter app for Android TV

November 16: Twitter officially launched its Android TV app for streaming live Thursday Night Football games and watching Periscope videos. While it is also possible to browse Twitter using the Android TV app, it is not possible to compose tweets with it. Twitter already has an app on Apple TV, Fire TV and Xbox One.

Silencing the trolls

November 15: Twitter cracks down on online harassment, with a new suite of tools aimed at weeding out the less-than-friendly types in your Twitter feed. The new tools include the ability to mute hashtags and specific words, phrases and even emoji you don't want to see in your feed. It's a small step, but definitely one in the right direction.

Devs is a new YouTube series that gives us a behind-the-scenes look at game development

If you've ever wondered what exactly goes on behind the scenes when developers are creating new and interesting games, you might want to consider checking out the latest YouTube series called Devs.

The series shows us the daily lives of game developers based in Finland, a mecca for game developers. The host of the show, Christoffer Weiss, visits different cities in this Nordic country, meets up with game developers, and interviews them in their daily work environments. It's a fascinating insight into the fun, drudgery and quirky characters of the game scene.

The whole purpose of the series is to show the viewers not only how game development really happens but also how the industry has changed in recent years and some of the challenges game developers experience on a daily basis. It's like Cribs but for popular game titles.

Vesa Raudasoja, one of the show's creators, has said that Devs will give us a more accurate picture of game development instead of just a "superficial glimpse". It will also show us what makes Finland, where companies like Rovio and Fingersoft are based, an excellent country for game development.

Fingersoft is also one of the companies that will be a part of the series. Kiemura, the developer behind Piranh.io, will also be featured on Devs. The first episode, which is around 40 minutes long, is already available on YouTube. Others will be added soon but unfortunately, the creators have not revealed exactly when that might happen and how many episodes we can expect to see.

Will you watch Devs on YouTube? Let us know how you imagine the lives of game developers.

Google sued by its own employee for running an internal “spying program”

court

court

A project manager over at Google is taking his employer to court. The employee, who goes by the name of John Doe for privacy reasons, has filed a lawsuit against Google because he believes that the company's confidentiality policies, which include an internal "spying program", are violating labor laws in California.

According to the lawsuit, Google's policies don't allow employees to discuss work-related topics including salaries, to post their personal opinions about the company online, and must not leak any product or other Google related information to the public. If Googlers break the company's rules, they just might end up getting fired.

While this all might sound pretty standard, employees are even forbidden from discussing possible legal violations with the company's legal advisors or from discussing working conditions at Google with the outside world.

The lawsuit also states that Google wants its employees to report those who are leaking information. Apparently, the tech giant has a "Stop Leaks" program in place that is managed through an internal website. Employees have the option of reporting a colleague to superiors, which then look into the matter and fire the whistleblower if the report is true.

In addition, John Doe is also stating that Brian Katz, the director of global investigations, intelligence, and protective services over at Google, has falsely accused him of leaking information to the media. Which, we assume, is at least one of the reasons why he has decided to press charges.

It's probably going to take some time before the court makes its ruling but when it does, we'll be sure to let you guys know the outcome. Meanwhile, feel free to let us know your thoughts about this topic in the comment section below.

Galaxy S7 won’t jump to Android 7.1.1 for Vodafone Australia

Samsung has revealed that the Galaxy S7 and the S7 edge will skip Android 7.0 Nougat and jump straight to Android 7.1.1, but it seems like that might not be the case for Vodafone Australia. According to a Vodafone Australia representative, the Nougat the carrier is testing for the Galaxy S7 duo is 7.0, not 7.1.1.

This is Nougat on the Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge

Two weeks ago, we reported that Samsung will skip Android 7.0 altogether and upgrade the Galaxy S7 and S7 edge to 7.1.1, in response to a Galaxy beta program user's suggestion. That's good news for a lot of us, given that Android 7.1.1 Nougat is the latest version of Android, and we might as well get the latest build when it's no secret that Samsung devices take forever to get updates.

Well, unfortunately for some, Vodafone Australia seems to have a plan of its own: according to a representative named Kirsty, it is now confirmed that the Australian carrier is testing Android 7.0 for the S7 duo:

I've checked in with the right people for… and they've confirmed the references to Samsung skipping 7.0 refer to other markets and not to Australia. We're definitely testing 7.0 for both devices.

Now, Google announced Android 7.1.1 early this month, and if Vodafone is still testing Samsung's build, the Nougat update will probably get to S7 users early 2017. So who knows when Android 7.1.1 will hit? For all we know, it could be another few months, and by then there will have been higher builds. All in all, Vodafone's decision ultimately doesn't really make sense for us consumers.

Cold War-themed board game Twilight Struggle gets ported to Android

Cold War inspired board game Twilight Struggle has been ported to Android following a release on Steam in April. The two-player strategy title sees players take control of the US or USSR as they play through real historical events to try and achieve world dominance.

Twilight Struggle is, naturally, more concerned with influence and subterfuge than waging all-out war with armies. Players take turns drawing and playing cards to gain influence over allies during pivotal events like the Cuban Missile Crisis and Vietnam war.
