Developed by Fil Games (which is basically just one man, Sinan Özeray) Paper Wings puts you in control of an origami bird that is flying high and doesn't seem to have a care in the world. There are over 20 different types of birds to choose from, many of which are unlocked until you play more of the game. Once you have selected your favorite paper feathered friend, the object of the game is to gather as many balls in the air as possible.

Paper Wings contains 10 different stages, each with their own level of difficulty and challenges to get through. Fil Games is also promising special daily challenges for the game's most dedicated players. This game is also making its debut on the Android platform; it will be released for iOS, PC and Mac later this quarter.

If you have downloaded, installed and played Paper Wings, what is your opinion? Is this game a fun way to past the time? Let us know your thoughts in the comments.

Xiaomi Redmi 4 specs and renders just got leaked

xiaomi-redmi-4

The Xiaomi Redmi 3 launched earlier this year, but the Chinese smartphone company is apparently getting closer to launching its successor, the Xiaomi Redmi 4. A local telecom site, TianY, reportedly posted some renders and a few hardware specs for the phone.

The new listing repeats previous rumors about the Redmi 4 getting 3 GB of RAM and 32 GB of internal storage, along with a 5-inch 1080p display. The new hardware info in this leak shows it will also have a 13 MP rear camera, along with a 5 MP front-facing selfie camera.

The site claims it will have an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon processor, but does not offer specifics; earlier rumors claim it will be the Snapdragon 625 though. It's also supposed to have a 4,000 mAh battery, which is slightly smaller than the 4,100 mAh battery that was previously rumored.

The Xiaomi Redmi 4 is supposed to come in Silver, Grey and Gold colors, along with an all-metal body. Pricing has yet to be confirmed and we have seen reported that it will cost CNY 1,300, or about $190, or it could be much lower at CNY 699 or $105, depending on which rumor you believe.

Again, take all of these unconfirmed reports with a big grain of salt before Xiaomi officially announces the specs and price for the Redmi 4, which hopefully will happen by the end of the year.

Samsung Galaxy S8 will have an improved camera, enhanced AI service and “slick design”

samsung-logo-mwc-big

In the wake of the Galaxy Note 7's disastrous release and subsequent recall, Samsung is already hyping up a few of the features of its next flagship smartphone, the Galaxy S8.

After the company reported its quarterly financial report earlier this week, which saw a wipeout of Samsung's mobile profits due to the Note 7 recall, Lee Kyeong-tae, its vice president for mobile communications, actually revealed a few features that will be included in the Galaxy S8. According to The Wall Street Journal, Lee stated it would have a "slick design and an improved camera, as well as an enhanced artificial-intelligence service."

Those are obviously some very general and vague statements, but it shows that Samsung wants to move on from the Note 7 and get its customers and fans hyped up for the Galaxy S8. The "enhanced artificial-intelligence service" could be a reference to the Galaxy S8 using technology from intelligent interface developer Viv Labs, which Samsung recently acquired.

There are other rumors about the Samsung Galaxy S8 that are floating around. Some state it will have a full-screen 4K display, a dual camera and 6 GB of RAM. If you live in South Korea and bought the Note 7 and then turned it in for the Galaxy S7 or Galaxy S7 edge, you will be able to get the Samsung Galaxy S8 for a highly reduced price.

Samsung is expected to officially announce the Galaxy S8 as part of the Mobile World Congress trade show in late February, followed by a launch in March. Rumors about the company releasing the phone early, to offset the lost sales of the Note 7, have been refuted.

Take a look at the stunning Blue Coral Galaxy S7 edge

blue-coral-galaxy-s7-edge-1

The Blue Coral Galaxy S7 edge has been promised for a while now, but thanks to a shipping delay we may not see this handset variant outside of Asia for a while longer yet. Still, the handset is edging closer to its first week of November debut in South Korea, Taiwan, and Singapore, and Samsung has released a selection of promotional pictures to show off the swanky new color option.

The Blue Coral case option was originally intended for the Galaxy Note 7 and was proving very popular before the handset was yanked from store shelves. Given that we won't be seeing any more Note 7's, Samsung has decided to bring the option to the S7 edge instead. Other than the change in case color, the internal hardware and features remain exactly the same as the other Galaxy S7 edge color variants. It does look rather nice though.

Samsung Taiwan has confirmed that the Blue Coral Galaxy S7 edge will be released in the country on November 1st for NT$24,900 ($790). The smartphone is also stated to launch in South Korea on November 4th and in Singapore on the 5th. The model has also been tipped to be heading to Verizon in the US, but we're still waiting on a release date.

Hopefully, Samsung will release the Blue Coral variant across global markets over the coming month. What do you make of it, do you want one?

Oracle refuses to give up its Google ‘fair use’ lawsuit

court

After having had its third trial in the seemingly never ending Java API 'fair use' case denied by a federal court in California, Oracle has new filed papers this week stating that it will take its case to the US Court of Appeals. This means we're in for another round of court proceedings, despite the fact that a jury found that Google's use of Java APIs in Android was protected by "fair use" all the way back in May.

oracle logo mwc 2015See also: Google beats Oracle: Android is 'Fair Use'26

This isn't a particularly surprising announcement though, as Oracle has been signalling that it intends to continue to fight the case in almost anyway that it can. However, this appeal is going to be a tougher sell than its previous cases, as Oracle is going to have to successfully argue why a jury's unanimous verdict should be overturned, and there are plenty of reasons why the jury originally ruled fair use in Google's favour.

Based on the group's post-trial motions, we have a pretty good idea about the direction that Oracle may try and steer the proceedings. The group has previously indicated that it believes Google presented so little evidence that the jury should have found in Oracle's favour, based on the "four-factor" fair use analysis which it believes Google failed to win any of. Alternatively, it may focus on jury instructions in previous cases which it viewed as improper.

Oddly enough, the case is now coming back full circle to the Federal Courts which originally decided that APIs could be copyrighted, before this decision was overruled by US District Judge William Alsup. Even so, fair usage can still apply even to copyrighted properties, and Oracle has already acknowledged that it is fair use to just the Java language and the 62 "necessary" classes packaged into the Java API library. The group continues to argue over other "unnecessary" classes that are packages alongside these. This is certainly going to be a tough case to win.
