ZTE Nubia Z11 Mini S debuts with 23MP camera and 4GB of RAM

ZTE Nubia Z11 Mini S

ZTE has officially taken the veil off its new smartphone, the Nubia Z11 Mini S. This is the newest member of the company's sub-brand line that packs a punch after all.

While the Nubia Z11 Mini S retains the "mini" moniker, the smartphone isn't really small as it sports a 5.2-inch Full HD display. The handset's main selling point, however, is its 23-megapixel rear shooter with a phase-detection autofocus that's supposedly able to focus on an object in just a fraction of a second. Its f/2.0 aperture should also make the camera a decent low-light shooter. Moreover, the 13MP front shooter comes with a Sony IMX25 sensor and an f/2.2 aperture that will surely capture the heart of selfie-addicts.

The Nubia Z11 Mini S runs Android 6.0 Marshmallow with an overlay of Nubia UI 4.0, though it remains unclear when (or if) the phone will be getting the Android 7.0 Nougat treatment. Inside, the handset includes an octa-core Snapdragon 625 processor clocked at 2.0 GHz, versus its predecessor's Qualcomm MSM8952 Snapdragon 617. It also packs 64GB of built-in storage and 4GB of RAM, up from the Nubia Z11 Mini's 3GB RAM.

Storage options include 64 and 128GB variants, and there's also support for expandable memory up to 200GB. Support for 4G VoLTE, dual-band Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.1, and USB Type-C connectivity has been included, too. The Nubia Z11 Mini S has a 3000mAh non-removable battery that will supposedly keep the phone in operation for up to 3.51 days of use per charge. The ubiquitous fingerprint sensor is present on the back along with NFC support through the NeoSafe 2.0 system.

The handset will hit store shelves in Khaki, Champagne and Alloy color options. Google Flights will inform you when you can buy the cheapest ticket

google-travel

Google wants to make it easier for people to snag the lowest possible airline prices, thanks to the latest version of the company's Flights search service. The update, which will roll out in the "coming weeks", will inform users if a price for a specific flight could go up in the near future, or offer tips to get the best fare for a particular route.

If a specific flight number is entered into Google Flights, it might sent a notification informing the user that the current price is expected to go up in a few hours and that it might be a good idea to purchase the ticket now in order to secure the lowest possible fare. If a person is still picking the best flight on a specific route, the app might offer suggestions for alternative airports or different travel days that might lower its ticket price.

Google Trips App AASee also: Google Trips is a new smart travel app that will help plan your next vacation4

Some people like to wait before buying a ticket to see if the fare goes down in a few days. In that case, Google Flights can now be set up to send notifications to users if a ticket price decreases for a specific route or flight. Any saved flights can be tracked on an user's phone as part of the new update.

Google is also adding some other new travel features as part of its search app. A new filter called "Deals" has been added that will let users see only special hotel prices for specific dates, along with extra special prices for members of a hotel's rewards membership service.

Do you use Google Flights to help book your airline trips. If so, do you think these new price notifications will be helpful to your travel needs?

Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge: Olympic Games Limited Edition overview

Samsung has released a few limited edition smartphones over the years, like the Batman edition of the Galaxy S7 Edge and the Iron Man version of its predecessor, all the way back to a pre-Galaxy era Matrix edition feature phone. While these releases have generally coincided with a major movie release, this year, Samsung also decided to commemorate Rio 2016 with a Limited Edition Galaxy S7 Edge.

This certainly makes sense, given the fact that Samsung has been a sponsor of the Olympics for quite a while now. The summer games may already be well behind us, but we still thought it would be a cool idea to check out this special edition smartphone. Here is a quick look at the Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge: Olympic Games Limited Edition!

Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge Olympic Edition-1

The first thing you will notice is that the packaging this phone arrives in is quite different from the regular box. The black box is much bigger than the standard retail version, and comes with "Rio 2016" printed on the front. Inside the box is a nice black carrying case with an Olympic Games Edition logo, in which the phone can be found.

While I am not entirely sure of the materials used, it does feel like a high quality carrying case, that includes a couple of pockets inside that will allow you to store smaller items like charging cables or microSD cards and adapters.

Underneath the carrying case is a black pouch that also feels like it has been made using high quality materials, and holds everything that is typically available with the Galaxy S7 Edge. This includes the user manual and other documentation that nobody reads, a pair of earphones, wall charging adapter, and a microUSB cable.

We aren't going to focus on the specifications, features, and performance of this device, since it is essentially identical to the regular Galaxy S7 Edge, save for a few aesthetic changes in the design and software package. This special edition iteration comes with the same display, processing package, battery, and cameras, and as such, we can expect this device to perform exactly as its regular sibling does.

Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge Olympic Edition-14

There are a few differences between the two however, starting with the design. To maintain the theme of the Olympic Games, you will notice colored accents for the buttons and ports, that include all the colors of the Olympic rings. You will see red around the power button, yellow for the earpiece and home button, green for the volume rocker, and blue around the camera unit and heart rate monitor on the back.

There is also the Olympics logo printed on the back, along with "Rio 2016 Olympic Games Limited Edition" written right below the FCC logo. The color version is similar to the Black Onyx version available with the regular Galaxy S7 Edge, but instead of a silver frame, the metal has been treated with a dark chrome finish, which I find looks a lot nicer, and gives the device a stealthier look.

Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge Olympic Edition-16

Like previous special edition Samsung smartphones, this Olympic Games version comes with a custom theme on the software side of things. You will notice that the icons, notification drop down, Settings menu, and certain apps have all been themed to incorporate the colors of the Olympic rings. Apart from that however, the software experience is exactly the same as what you would get with the Galaxy S7 Edge. In fact, if you aren't a fan of the custom theme, you also have the option to switch it to the default Samsung one.

So there you have it for this quick overview of the Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge: Olympic Games Limited Edition! While this is a limited edition smartphone, it is actually pretty easy to get your hands on one on Amazon or eBay, and even at a Best Buy, and the price point is similar to the unlocked version of the regular Galaxy S7 Edge as well. There isn't a whole lot of extras here, but it is always pretty cool to have one of Samsung's special edition phones, and its unique look may be worth it.

Xiaomi Mi Note 2 to debut on October 25

Xiaomi Mi Max-12

While numerous leaks and rumors have been floating around the internet for some time, it looks like Xiaomi is finally ready to take the wraps off its next big-screened smartphone. The company has just announced that it plans to unveil the Mi Note 2 on October 25.

The official invite puts on the usual tight-lipped mood typical of any launch event announcement, save for the fact that Hong Kong-based actor Tony Leung will host the event in China.

While the press invite bears little information about what we should expect from the Mi Note 2, Xiaomi's announcement coincides with the surfacing of new photos claiming to belong to the upcoming smartphone. The images, which were shared on Chinese microblogging site Weibo and first reported by Xiaomi Today, suggest the Mi Note 2 will have a super thin bezel on all four sides and an edge-to-edge display.

As if to drift away from current designs in the market, the leaked photos also show the Mi Note 2's top panel with no front-facing camera, sensors and speaker. Since the leak shows only the top of the handset, it's still safe to assume that a fingerprint scanner is likely to be found inside the home button, as previous rumors have claimed. It's worth noting that we have also heard rumors that the device will launch with a curved display, similar to what's found on the Galaxy S7 Edge.

Rumor also has it that the Mi Note 2 will sport a 5.7-inch Full HD display and will be powered by a Snapdragon 821 SoC. Inside, the Mi Note 2 will pack 4GB of RAM, 32GB/64GB internal storage and a 3,600mAh battery. Other reports claim the Mi Note 2 will be joined by its Pro sibling, which will supposedly include a 6GB of RAM and 128GB of internal memory under the hood. If Xiaomi does launch a model with 6GB of RAM, the company might struggle with keeping the price down once it hits store shelves.

Of course, we'll bring you all the details once October 25 rolls around. Meanwhile, share your thoughts down in the comments about the phone.

Acer’s new Chromebook 15 on sale at Walmart for $199, Android app support coming soon

acer-chromebook-15

This post originally appeared on our sister site, TabTimes.

Acer's newest member of the company's Chrome OS family, the Chromebook 15, is now on sale at Walmart for the price of $199. It offers a large 15.6-inch display, although its resolution is pretty small at just 1366×768.

If you are looking for a super-cheap Chromebook with a big display, this one may be for you. According to 9to5Google, the Acer Chromebook 15 CB3-532-C47C has an Intel Celeron N3060 dual-core processor inside, along with 2GB RAM and 16GB of storage, but it also includes an SD card slot that will help boost its rather meager SSD space.

The new Chromebook 15 weighs 4.3 pounds, which is not exactly in the ultrabook category but is still pretty light considering its large display. The battery life for the Chrome is supposed to last up to 12 hours, which again is pretty solid for the hardware and display. Acer does claim that this Chromebook model has been tested to withstand drops of up to 23 inches, which makes it sound like it can take a bit of abuse. It also has two USB 3.0 ports and an HDMI port, which is about standard for this kind of Chromebook.

Perhaps the most important feature for this Acer Chromebook 15 model, at least for some people, is that it will be included on the list of Chromebooks that will support running Android apps. There's no word yet on when that will happen, but it's definitely a plus for owners who want to run the vast number of apps available in the Google Play Store.

What would you change about the Pixel and Pixel XL? [Poll of the Week]

google-pixel-and-pixel-xl-first-look-hands-on-aa-29-AA
Last week's poll summary: Out of over 17,400 votes, 29.5% our readers say the LG V20 is the best alternative to the Galaxy Note 7. Unsurprisingly, the Galaxy S7 Edge came in second with 25.4% of the votes, while 24.9% of our readers voted for the Google Pixel XL.

If you were one of the first to pre-order a Google Pixel or Pixel XL, you might be lucky enough to receive your new device later this week. If you didn't place your pre-order yet, you'll have to wait much longer… like, 4 or 5 weeks.

No matter if you're a fan of these devices or not, the Pixel and Pixel XL are two of the most controversial smartphones Google has ever produced. Compared to last year's Nexus 6P and 5X, the Pixels are pretty expensive with the base model device starting at $649. Many of our readers also argue that the lack of a proper waterproof rating is a major downside, and some also say the overall design isn't too impressive, either.

Sure, no smartphone is perfect. But with the laundry list of gripes many of our readers have with these phones, there are also some pretty great features we can't forget to bring up. Not only do they run Android 7.1 Nougat out of the box, they're also the first phones with the Google Assistant baked in. And while we're still looking forward to testing out these devices in full, DxOMark claims they have what could be the best smartphone cameras ever.

So now that we've had more than enough time to think about these two phones, we want to know – what would you change about the Pixel and Pixel XL? Did Google go crazy on pricing this time around? Would you have preferred a more unique design? Be sure cast your vote in the poll below, and if there's something you need to add, feel free to speak up in the comment section. We look forward to hearing what you have to say!
