Deal: massive Logitech sale, save up to 50% on keyboards, webcams, mice, and more

logitech amazon sale

Amazon's deal of the day is something of a doozy this time around. As is always the case, this Gold Box Deal of the Day will only last for today, September 27, so if you need new computer accessories, now might be your time to act.

Although the package is advertised as 50 percent off select devices, we're seeing some go for much less. A Bluetooth Mouse (M557) is currently going for $20, for instance, and its list price is closer to $50, meaning Amazon reports 70 percent savings.

Other deals of note include the Logitech Speaker System Z523 with Subwoofer, which is going for half off its usual $100 price tag. You'll have to click over to the second page to find that one, however, because this deal spans two pages of products.

For anyone in the market for a new keyboard, there are a variety for sale here, including some in snazzy colors like orange and pomegranate. Those mice (mouses?) with the giant trackball are also available for half off.

To see if there's anything in this Logitech Gold Box Deal that may interest you, click the button below to check it out. Then let us know in the comments what you think is the best steal of the bunch!

Google announces the winners of their first annual Indie Games Festival

indie game festival san francisco

If you're a part of the indie games community, then you have probably been paying close attention the the festival that Google held in San Francisco this Saturday. 30 innovative games were put on display for judges and the public alike, and today Google is ready to announce their seven finalists and three winners.

Contestants were judged based on visual and audio aesthetics as well as creative gameplay design. The panel of judges consisted of industry experts.

The runners up include Parallyzed, an "atmospheric adventure platformer with unique gameplay set in a dark and enchanting dreamscape"; Norman's Night In: The Cave, a 2D puzzler following the tale of a man lost in a cave with nothing but a bowling ball; Armajet, a multiplayer jetpack arena shoot-em-up; and Antihero, an Oliver Twist inspired strategy game set in a gritty cityscape.

Of the runners up, only Parallyzed is currently available. The rest are slated for release in the final quarter of 2016.

Indie Games Festival Winners

Taking home the title of Champ are three games:

Orbit – Playing with Gravity, a puzzler that is, at its heart, essentially a gravity simulator. Flick colorful particle planets into existence to navigate through a gauntlet of black holes. The game also contains a sandbox mode so you can create your own challenges.

Numbo Jumbo is a curious number puzzle game that would probably allure the mathematically minded. It's a simple game in which you find paths through numbered nodes such that they add up correctly.

Bit Bit Blocks is yet another puzzler, but this one is more action based with cutesy graphics and multiplayer capabilities. Although you can challenge your friends, there's also a single player campaign to play through.

Winners and nominees were awarded with a slew of prizes including Google I/O 2017 tickets, a Tango Development kit, Google Cloud credits, an NVIDIA Android TV & K1 tablet, and a Razer Forge TV bundle.

Google took the opportunity of this announcement to also reveal that, due to the success of this US Indie Games Festival, a UK variant will be coming to European soil soon. Details on the ground are few for now – we don't have any dates or destinations yet – but if you're a European indie dev, you might want to start getting your ducks in a row for this opportunity!

If you've been looking for quality mobile games, few have faced as much professional review recently as these. Check out those that are currently available, and let us know what you think of them in the comments below!

Google CEO Sundar Pichai discusses trials and successes in India

google-sundar-pichai-mwc-logo-3

Today in India Times, Google CEO Sundar Pichai published a piece discussing the importance of the Indian market. In it, he drew from his own childhood and segued neatly into the current issues the country is facing. However, never one to be deterred by complications, Pichai chooses to view these challenges as opportunities.

The takeaway phrase from the think piece is that Pichai is convinced that "the best innovations come from the most surprising places." Pichai cites one Advay Ramesh, who was a 14-year-old boy living in Chennai. Ramesh was aware that the local fishermen were in a constant struggle with a bevy of complicated maritime borders. Many fishermen had accidentally run afoul of the law, and some had even been detained, all for trespassing into international waters.

Even as a 14-year-old, Ramesh saw an opportunity for progress inherent in this problem. Inspired by technology like Google Maps, Ramesh developed a custom tablet that would warn fishermen when they were nearing those tricky borders.

We live in an age where a 14-year-old in Chennai has access to satellite geolocation technology, and they are using it to innovate. As Pichai points out, when he was growing up in India, it was difficult to even gain access to a computer.

Pichai listed the technological benefits that have come to India in the intervening years, including Google's projects to bring wifi to train stations and introduce technical training programs in the area. But India still isn't as connected to the rest of the world as are places like the US or the UK.

India still isn't as connected to the rest of the world as are places like the US or the UK.

By acknowledging spotty mobile coverage and a lack of ubiquitous internet accessibility, Google has created workarounds in their popular service like Maps and YouTube by creating offline variants so that Indian users can stay on their devices even when they're disconnected.

Pichai's point is that, although the mobile phone market has peaked, there is still plenty of room for development and innovation in India. The solutions created in this landscape of trials and tribulations can be applied elsewhere in the global market, and by expanding technological services in India, more young innovators like Ramesh will gain access to the resources they need to make a meaningful impact on the world. No matter how you spin it, in Pichai's view, investing in the Indian tech market is a win for the global community.

What do you think of Pichai's thoughts on India and innovation? Let us know your take in the comments below!

Future Samsung phones may feature hydrophobic displays

Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge IP68 water resistant droplets

Samsung is already at the cutting edge of mobile display technology with its QHD AMOLED curved displays, but the company is also looking to the future. The US Department of Energy's Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) has announced today that Samsung has acquired an exclusive license for its optically clear superhydrophobic film technology.

Superhydrophobic film technology is a bit of a mouthful, but in a nutshell its the term that the ORNL has coined for its transparent coating designed for display, which helps to repel water and prevents dust and dirt from sticking to the screen. A superhyrdophobic surface has a water droplet contact angle of 150 degrees or more. ORNL's coating boasts an angle between 155 and 165 degrees. This essentially means that water will actually bounce right off the display, taking dirt and dust with it. Which also means less fingerprints and smudges.

The superhydrophobic technology is manufactured by depositing a thin glass film on a glass surface and then heating the coated glass to turn the surface into two material compositions. This is followed up by a selective edging process to produce a porus 3D network of high-silica content glass, which gives the coating its properties. Samsung will need to integrate this process into its manufacturing line before it can produce any displays for smartphones. While it might be a bit early for the Galaxy S8, this technology could be ready in time for the S9.

The coating can be applied to most glass surfaces, so Samsung could use for for smartphones, tablets, smartwatches, or pretty much anything else with a screen. Of course, Samsung's flagship Galaxy smartphones are all boasting IP68 water resistant ratings this year, so this new film technology seems like a natural fit for a future flagship smartphone.
