Deal: React Native app development course going for $15 (usually $30)

react-native-logo

Update: This deal was previously available at $10, but that promotion has since expired. However, you can still take advantage of a 50% off promo using the updated code noted below.

React Native is a development platform designed by Facebook to make building apps faster and easier. React is used by a growing number of businesses to build in-house apps, and its popularity is making it one of the more lucrative app creation platforms. Now is your chance to get in on the action.

Udemy is currently having a sale on one of their React Native app creation courses. Even if you don't have any programming experience, this course will have you building professional feeling apps in as little time as a single day (provided you have absolutely nothing else to do).

girl-using-her-laptop-computer-725x440See also: Create your first Android app even if you don't know how to code

The reason for this sale is because the course is still under development. Once it's fleshed out into its full form, we expect the price to rise to somewhere in the $100-$200 range we normally see these kinds of courses going for. However, since students get lifetime access to all course materials – even those that haven't been added yet – now might be the ideal time to sneak in your registration.

Right now, the course focuses on developing iOS apps. However, since React Native works with Android, the vast majority of this information is transferrable. Indeed, what makes React native so popular is that it allows developers to build apps across platforms – from Android, to iOS, and soon to Smart TV's and smartwatches – without loss of quality.

To start learning at this basement-tier price, click the button below to head over to Udemy. Use the code ANDROIDA15 when you check out to lock in the $15 promotional rate.

5 Android apps you shouldn’t miss this week – Android Apps Weekly

Welcome to the 157th edition of Android Apps Weekly! Here are the headlines from the last week:

  • Android Pay is reportedly coming to Google Chrome soon. The idea is to make shopping on mobile browsers much easier by implementing the service directly into it. Thus, you'll be able to make purchases on the web without doing anything special. This is similar to how Google used to do it and we're glad to see the feature returning under the umbrella of Android Pay. There is no word yet on when this will show up on Chrome.
  • Pokemon Go popularity is still surging, although not as much as it was before. That said, the game has passed the 500 million download mark. Along with that, the company released stats that have shown that players have walked 2.85 billion miles which is just insane. Even in the unlikely event that Pokemon Go tails off by the end of the year, it's definitely nothing to scoff at. The game is doing very well.
  • About the only big app news from the Apple event this week was that Nintendo was bringing a Mario game to mobile called Super Mario Run. As exciting as that sounds, the game appears to be a side-scrolling infinite runner that doesn't sound too exciting. However, the good news is that it will have a single price and not be a freemium game. It is definitely coming to Android, but we don't know when just yet.
  • Speaking of Nintendo, they have officially delayed the release of their Fire Emblem and Animal Crossing mobile games until early 2017. Nintendo stated that they wanted the Mario game to get fully released before it launched any of their other properties. Many have speculated that the games will be launched in the first quarter of 2017 before their March 31st earnings call, but nothing is set in stone just yet.
  • The latest Humble Bundle is out now! It's a fairly good haul this time around and you can pick up games like Tomb Raider 1 and 2, Shooting Stars, Space Grunts, Cloud Chasers, and more. You'll get four games for paying at least $1 or six games for beating the average. Those who pay more than $5 will get every game in the bundle. These games retail for $34, so it's a great way to get some games for cheap and donate to charity while you do it.

Here are the videos you don’t want to miss this week – September 11, 2016

IFA-Header3

Every week at Android Authority (and our sister sites) we produce a ton of great news coverage and exceptional videos; but during events things kick it up a notch, taking it to eleven. While IFA 2016 admittedly was absent of massive flagship announcements, there were plenty of interesting mobile news including the release of several new tablets, a few mid-rangers and Sony's latest high-end darling. This was followed up by LG's announcement of the LG V20 and topped off with the launch of the new iPhone 7 and 7 Plus this week as well.

So let's jump right in and take a look at all the big videos of the week!

IFA 2016 Vlogs: The middle and the end

Last week's video roundup bought you the first vlog from Berlin as the team gathered from around the world and descended upon the German capital for IFA 2016. What happens in the middle of the show amongst the panic and when all is said and done, and the show has come to an end?

While these trade shows can definitely be taxing, one of the highlights is undoubtedly catching up with friends from the industry (and even the competition). Without giving too much away, the conversations certainly do get interesting!

The best of the rest at IFA

While the first few days of focused on AndroidAuthority, our sister site TabTimes – who relaunched last week and is giving away a Dell XPS 13 – took centre stage during the latter stages as we explored the depths of computing by taking a closer look at the new 2-in-1s, tablets and ultrabooks from a range of OEMs.

Without doubt Lenovo dominated most of the chatter around computing and their first product on the list is the Lenovo Yoga Tab 3 Plus, the latest in the Yoga line of impressive tablets, that are a firm favorite here at Android Authority. The Yoga Tab 3 Plus brings updated specs, an impressive kick stand and excellent audio at an even more affordable price than previous generations.

Lenovo Miix 510, their answer to the Microsoft Surface Pro 4. Sporting a flexible 2-in-1 form factor with detachable keyboard, a 12.2-inch IPS display and support for a digital pen with 2,048 levels of pressure sensitivity, this convertible definitely packs a punch.

From a quaint 2-in-1 to a powerhouse ultrabook as Lenovo's Yoga 910 comes equipped with an optional 4K display and impossibly-thin bezels on 3 sides of the display. Coupled with a stylish watchband hinge, the latest Intel Kaby Lake Core i7 processor and up to 16GB of RAM, this is definitely up their with the best ultra-flagship portables.

While Lenovo stole the show at IFA 2016 for the sheer number of new products it announced, Acer struck back with its new Swift 7 and Spin 7, the former being the thinnest notebook in the world at just 9.98mm. Both are powerful, stylish and crisp and while the Spin 7 is more powerful and probably better value for money, the Swift 7 is just incredibly thin!

If that didn't sedate your thirst for computers, why not check out the world's first curved screen notebook – you might be in for a surprise though! Of course, if a tablet is more your style, you might like the Huawei MediaPad M3.

Best of IFA 2016: From Android to Audio & Computing

Of course, a trip to a major trade show like IFA wouldn't be complete without our top picks from the show, from the hundred we've trawled through on the show floor. This year was our biggest ever with a total of 16 awards across 3 categories representing our family of sites – Android, Audio (for SoundGuys) and Computing (for TabTimes). There are some seriously worth winners this year!

LG V20 Hands on & best features videos:

As IFA 2016 drew to a close, another event several thousand miles away took centre stage as LG announced its new LG V20 flagship smartphone. There's a lot to like about this device from excellent audio, impressive cameras and a unique display to a durable build, powerful package and removable battery and we've got a ton of videos for you so let's get stuck in.

What are your favorite features of the LG V20? Check out the video above as Kris talks through the best LG V20 features, vote in our weekly poll and continue scrolling to the videos below for an in-depth look at the LG V20.

LG V20 Drop Test

One feature that's likely to interest most people is the MIL-STD-810G transit drop compliance rating as, despite a metal build, the LG V20 is rated at being able to survive a knock or two. Just how much can it withstand? Watch the video above to find out!

LG V20 Software Feature Focus

From drop testing to a closer look at the software, as the LG V20 is the world's first smartphone to run Google's latest Android Nougat OS out of the box. There's a ton of new features so check out LG's implementation above, then head over to our Android Nougat review as Joe and Kris run you through Google's new OS.

Vlogging with a smartphone: LG V20 Berlin Edition

From software to the camera and LG's new SteadyRecord 2.0 feature could be the answer to shaky videos for all the vloggers out there. Is the LG V20 the perfect smartphone for vlogging? Check out the video above and let us know what you think!

LG V20 vs Samsung Galaxy Note 7

And the V20 juggernaut continues; we had a couple of days with the V20 so it wouldn't have been fair not to put it up against arguably its biggest competitor, the Samsung Galaxy Note 7. Above you can check out all the differences as we run you through a quick look comparison between the two.

Next we take you on a journey to explore the cameras as they're two very different implementations; the single lenses on the front and the back of the Galaxy Note 7 have already proven to be very reliable, but do the dual lenses on the V20 make it the smartphone camera of the year so far?

The Galaxy Note 7 Saga continues

Of course, one reason why the LG V20 could yet dominate the Galaxy Note 7 is down to Samsung themselves; the Note 7's very public recall continues to gather steam and above, Jayce talks you through the latest (at least of a few days ago). Once you're done with that, head over to our Galaxy Note 7 recall guide, where you'll find all the latest info.

With the recall so public, everyone is weighing in so what does the tech world think of the Galaxy Note 7, the recall and Samsung's various responses? Join Jayce as we find out, coupled with a large dose of humor of course!

The HTC Nexus aka 'Sailfish' makes yet another appearance

Samsung and LG might be dominating the headlines now but Google is hoping that it can steal the thunder with its two upcoming HTC-made smartphones. What can we expect? There's not a lot we know so far but thanks to our exclusive leak, you can see a 360-degree render of the lower of the two, the Sailfish, above!

What is Digital Audio? Let Gary Explain!

With Apple following the lead of certain Android OEMs and dropping the headphone jack from the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus, join Gary Sims as he explains exactly what digital audio is while also telling you everything you need to know.

And that's a wrap! It's been a rather busy week this week but we're firmly into the season where devices are about to descend at rapid speeds. What's your favorite video this week? Let us know in the comments below!

Angry Birds 2 receives a substantial content update, with new levels and piggies

angry-birds-2-main

The seasons are a-changing, and Rovio's way of acknowledging falling leaves and the return is the PSL is by throwing Angry Birds 2 a bunch of new content. The forefront of this sizable update is two new chapters, which each bear 40 new levels and 6 boss pigs to sling-shot your way through. The chapters aren't Fall-themed like one might expect. Rather, they're a ode to the sunny days leaving us: a hot and humid jungle called Hamazones and the beachy Copacabacon.

Angry_Birds_2_Hamazonas

You'll also get a couple new (and pesky) piggy foes along the way. One of them, known is the Beamer Pig, is equipped with a gravity altering beam gun that can frustratingly throw your bird off course. The second new enemy is actually three, on top of each other. Aka, the Pig Tower, a trio of balancing pigs will stop your bird in its place if caught in the wrong angle.

Angry_Birds_2_Beamer

Rovio is also adding onto the daily challenges, and upping the game. A new challenge mode called King Pig Panic will unlock upon completing a daily challenge, comprised of five stages. It's not for the faint of heart, as you'll be on a 30 minute time limit to complete them all. There's no do-overs if you fail, you'll just have to do better the next day.

Lastly, if you're into dressing up your birds with fashionable hats and multiplying your damage points, Rovio threw in three new collections: Back-to-School, Beach, and Pirate. The update is out now, which you can grab in the link below, so get crackin'.

Invisage QuantumFilm ready to bring better cameras to VR headsets

quantumfilm

Mobile photography has come a long way, but it is still true that a smaller sensor has more complications. This is especially an issue for the tinier products in the industry, like IoT devices and VR headsets. But QuantumFilm is ready to roll out and might be changing the whole game.

This technology was created by Invisage and could replace CMOS sensors, thanks to its thinner size, better handling of light, better dynamic range and improved image stabilization. And QuantumFilm can do all of this while keeping high resolutions. But what is it that makes QuantumFilm better?

Traditional sensors aim to improve resolution by making pixels smaller. This means each pixel is less sensitive to light, therefore degrading image quality. What InVisage does is use a quantum dot coating with very high light sensitivity. This film is placed over silicon, allowing the sensor to capture all of the light without obstructions.

cross-section-web2

The idea is that QuantumFilm could benefit cameras for smaller gadgets, such as IoT devices, drones, vehicles and, of course, VR headsets that take advantage of cameras (such as the HTC Vive). But of course, this technology could improve any camera.

We are not sure when/if we will see QuantumFilm coming to consumer devices. This is because it is still unsure whether it will be widely adopted or not, but we we are certainly excited to see what it can do for our tech.
