Deal: LG G5 only $409.99 from eBay

LG G5-22

Looking to get yourself a brand new phone? The LG G5 continues to be one of the hottest devices around, and you can have it for a very affordable price if you take advantage of a deal we have for you today.

eBay seller 9tronix is selling the unlocked 32 GB LG G5 for only $409.99. That is about as low as we have seen the phone go for, but do keep in mind the LG G5 price does continue to drop. It can be found on Amazon for a bit under $450. This means you can still get the phone for a low price if you miss on this deal, but $410 for an LG G5 is quite the steal.

The LG G5 comes with great specs, including a 5.3-inch QHD display, a Snapdragon 820 processor, 4 GB of RAM, 16MP/8MP cameras and a 2800 mAh battery. All inside a modular body that happens to be quite enticing. It will handle anything you throw at it, really.

Interested? You can always read our full LG G5 review for more. But try to act fast if you want to take advantage of this deal. The seller does have a limited quantity and he has sold over half of it already. Who is signing up?

Chromebooks with Google Play Store access can be found using Android Device Manager

Chromebook-Pixel-1

Android Device Manager has saved our guts at least once, right? The ability to find, ring, block and wipe a device remotely can be very convenient when a phone gets lost or stolen. And now we are finding out Chromebooks with access to the Google Play Store can also take advantage of these neat features.

While it seems to be an accidental side feature, the ability to use the Android Device Manager with a Chromebook will prove useful to many. Especially considering these are devices made with mobility in mind.

General tests show that Chrome OS laptops can be easily and accurately found in the map, but other features may be wonky. For example, ringing the device won't actually play a sound, but it will dim the screen and show a notification. Alternatively, you can simply wipe the device or try to lock it.

Of course, in order to take advantage of the Android Device Manager, Chromebooks do need access to the Google Play Store. Google's app store is only available to 3 devices right now: the 2015 Chromebook Pixel, ASUS Chromebook Flip and Acer R11 Chromebook. And that is only for those running the beta channel. The rest of us will have to wait until the public release.

Have any of you tried using the Android Device Manager with a Chromebook? Hit the comments to let us know how well it works!

Pokemon Go increases battery pack sales by 101%

pokemon go 8

Pokemon Go is a bit of a battery hog, but people don't seem to care. It is, after all, the most popular game in US history. And it happens to be making business more successful for battery pack manufacturers!

According to the NDP, portable battery sales have skyrocketed since the Pokemon Go launch. Sales where only up about 4% year-over-year for the few weeks before the game's launch. That seems like normal business, but things changed after the title's release. Over 1.2 million units were sold during the 2 weeks after the game hit the streets.

This signals a 101% increase over the same period in 2015 (July 10-23). Impressive, right? Niantic Labs is not the only one making massive amounts of cash over this game. It has over 100 million installs and everyone is trying to reap the benefits of such a highly demanded product.

"Pokémon Go is the summer's hottest game partly because it utilizes features like location, motion sensors and augmented reality in your smartphone- however, these features consume more of the phone's battery life. As a way to compensate for the extra battery usage, consumers are buying portable power packs so they can continue to play, uninterrupted." -Ben Arnold, executive director, industry analyst for consumer technology at The NPD Group.

This seems like a natural side effect to the game's popularity. After all, smartphones don't last long when using GPS, the screen and all the other sensors continuously. Battery packs were also a common purchase among Ingress users; but of course, that game wasn't as popular.

Buy a Galaxy on T-Mobile this Saturday and get one for free

T-Mobile logoShutterstock

If you buy one of the newer Galaxy devices on T-Mobile, the self-proclaimed Un-carrier is giving you a second one for free – this Saturday only.

If you've been thinking of buying a new Galaxy phone with T-Mobile, you may want to go ahead and do that this Saturday, August 6th. America's fastest network will be offering a free Galaxy phone for those who purchase a qualifying Samsung Galaxy this Saturday only.

Dubbed the Saturday-Only Samsung Superphone Superdeal (gotta love some alliteration!), T-Mobile's BOGOF deal covers the most beloved Galaxies from the recent years: Galaxy S7, Galaxy S7 edge, Galaxy S6, Galaxy S6 edge, Galaxy S6 edge+, and Galaxy Note5.

As you may have noticed, the newest addition to the Galaxy family, the Galaxy Note7, is not on the list, so pre-ordering the iris-scanning phablet won't get you a free smartphone sadly. However, the deal does include last year's Note5 as well as Note7's S-Pen-less siblings: the Galaxy S7 family.

Want all the fine prints? Well, here they are:

If you buy a qualifying Samsung Galaxy phone on T-Mobile's Equipment Installment Plan (EIP), and you add a line of service, you get a second Galaxy phone of equal or lesser value for free. According to T-Mobile, customers will be credited on their monthly bill over the 24-month EIP term for the full amount of the second device after paying any down payment, which will also be credited.

The deal is available at T-Mobile stores in the US and online for US customers.

With the Galaxy Note7 launching on America's third largest network soon, T-Mobile probably wants to boost sales of all the older Galaxy models. Considering all of the qualifying devices still boast top-notch specs and considering T-Mobile's recent victory, the Super-deal is indeed quite… super.

What are your thoughts on T-Mobile's latest deal? Let us know if you plan on buying a qualifying Galaxy device on T-Mobile this Saturday!

Show Press Release

Just when you thought Friday couldn't get any better, T-Mobile has an out of this galaxy deal for you this weekend. Starting tomorrow on Sat., Aug. 6, for ONE DAY ONLY, buy a qualifying Samsung Superphone and get a second of equal or lesser value for FREE when you add a line! Here's the lowdown:

Get a free Samsung Galaxy superphone when you buy a Samsung Galaxy superphone with T-Mobile's Equipment Installment Plan (EIP), and add a line of service.

Customers will be credited on their monthly bill over the 24-month EIP term for the full amount of the 2nd eligible device of equal or lesser value, after paying any down payment (they'll be credited for that, too!).

Qualifying devices: GS7, GS7 edge, GS6, GS6 edge, GS6 edge+, Note5

The one-day deal will be available at T-Mobile stores nationwide and online at T-Mobile.com <http://t-mobile.com> on August 6.

And, T-Mobile is the only place to take full advantage of your new Samsung superphones with unlimited music streaming, unlimited video streaming, unlimited data and text in 140+ countries and destinations worldwide, and more – all at no additional cost!

Joseph Gordon-Levitt wants to pay you to help make the LG V20 ad campaign

Last year you may remember Joseph Gordon-Levitt's involvement in the LG V10 campaign. His production company hitRECord used a variety of people in different settings coming together to create a simple melody. The ad sought to showcase the V10's ability to capture the in-between moments. With the LG V20, Gordon-Levitt is taking things in a different direction.

For the LG V20, hitRECord is encouraging fans to go out into their everyday worlds and do something spectacular. Whether it's performing music on the street, setting up a flash mob, or doing something completely out of the ordinary that turns heads and makes people want to whip out their phones and record what's going on.

"Last year we partnered with LG to make hitRECord's first ever TV commercial and we're very proud of what we made together," said Gordon-Levitt. "This time we want to tell an even larger story, focusing on the big moments that happen every day – moments that other people are meant to see and hear – moments that happen without warning and catch you off guard. These are the moments that make up the Everyday, Spectacular."

As an incentive to get people involved, hitRECord will be paying anyone whose content makes it into the final cut of any of the three campaign videos. What's more is that particularly exceptional submitters will receive a brand new smartphone. In the announcement video Gordon-Levitt doesn't specify which phone, but we think the LG V20 is a pretty solid guess.

Alcatel’s Idol 4 handset, headset VR kit hits Cricket Wireless

Alcatel Idol 4 Cricket

As expected, Cricket Wireless has just released the $200 Alcatel Idol 4 VR Experience Pack. This handset and VR headset bundle just might tide you over if you've grown sick of daydreaming about the next generation of Google's mobile VR initiative and are looking for something that's available now. Though it's far from the only mobile VR headset on the market, the fact that the Alcatel VR is automatically bundled in with the Idol 4 makes it a no-brainer.

Read more: Alcatel VR headset review

Needless to say, this package offers a pretty solid value. After all, the Idol 4 is powerful enough that it could command the $200 price tag by itself. It's kitted with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 617 clocked at 1.5 Ghz, an Adreno 405 graphics processor and 3GB of RAM, which is far from flagship specs but pretty solid considering the price tag. Other specs include a 2610 mAh battery, a 13MP rear cam, 8MP front cam, and 16GB storage with microSD for further expansion. On the software side, you get Android 6.0 Marshmallow with Alcatel's extras built on top of, including a special Alcatel VR store app.

For more details on the Idol 4 and its full specs, be sure to check out our "everything you need to know" page.

For those wondering, Cricket does not offer the Idol 4 by itself, if you were hoping to save some cash by decoupling the phone from the VR headset. That said, if you own another compatible phone and are just interested in the Alcatel VR headset, you can pick it up from Cricket for $50. Interested in finding out more about the Alcatel Idol 4 and the Idol 4s? Be sure to check out some of our earlier impressions of the duo from our original hands on.
