These are the Best iPhone SE 3 Cases to buy in 2022

Apple recently gave its budget-friendly iPhone, the iPhone SE, a minor refresh. The latest model in the SE lineup features the same dated design as its predecessor, but it packs a couple of significant improvements on the inside. The iPhone SE 3 packs Apple’s flagship A15 Bionic chip, which is a huge step up from the A13 on the older model. In addition, it comes with a couple of connectivity improvements, including 5G and Wi-Fi 6 support.

For a starting price of $429, the new iPhone SE 3 is a decent pick for those who want a compact iPhone that offers great performance at an affordable price. So, if you’ve been planning to get one for yourself, make sure you order a case and screen protector as well. That’s because the iPhone SE 3 features glass on both the front and back, which is susceptible to scratches and dings in day-to-day use. A durable case and screen protector will go a long way in keeping your iPhone looking new for a long time. If you’re not sure which one to order, here are our top picks for the best iPhone SE 3 cases you can get right now.

Motorola reportedly planning to launch four new Edge smartphones in 2022

Motorola returned to the flagship sphere with the Moto Edge and Edge Plus last year. The company followed up with the Motorola Edge 30 (Moto Edge Plus 2022) last month, which offers even more impressive specifications. It appears the Lenovo-owned brand is planning to launch even more smartphones under the Edge brand in 2022.

According to Evan Blass (via 91Mobiles), Motorola is working on four new smartphones under the Edge brand. The first is the Moto Edge 30 Ultra, code named Frontier. Thanks to previous leaks, we already know quite a lot about the phone, including its design and hardware. The phone Moto Edge 30 Ultra is expected to be the most powerful model in the Edge 30 lineup, featuring a 6.67-inch FHD+ POLED display, an unannounced flagship Snapdragon chipset (the SM8475), a 200MP primary shooter, and a 4,500mAh battery with 125W fast wired charging support. The report notes that the Moto Edge 30 Ultra isn’t expected to arrive until Q3 2022.

Next up in the line is a device codenamed Dubai, which will launch as the vanilla Moto Edge 30. It’ll slot below the Moto Edge 30 and could launch as soon as next month. In terms of hardware, the Moto Edge 30 is rumored to pack a 6.55-inch OLED display with a 144Hz refresh rate, 6GB/8GB RAM and 128GB/256GB storage, a 50MP primary shooter, and a 4,020mAh battery.

Dubai will be joined by a device codenamed Dubai+ in the third quarter. Its marketing name is unknown at this point, but we’re told it’ll be powered by an unspecified MediaTek chipset (MT6879) and feature a similar display and camera setup as the Moto Edge 30. It’ll pack a 5,000mAh battery and support stylus input similar to the Edge 30 Pro.

Finally, the Miami is expected to be a mid-range smartphone and could launch as the Moto Edge 30 Lite. The phone will reportedly feature a 6.28-inch OLED 120Hz display, a Snapdragon 695 chipset, 64MP primary and 13MP ultra-wide shooters, a 32MP selfie camera, and a 4,020mAh battery.

The latest reports suggest that Motorola is doing extremely well in the US. The company registered a 131% year-over-year growth in 2021, which helped it secure third place in the US smartphone market behind Samsung and Apple.

WhatsApp’s new voice messaging features will soon roll out to everyone

WhatsApp added the ability to send voice notes all the way back in 2013. Since its introduction, the feature hasn’t seen any major changes in terms of design or functionality. But that’s finally changing as the instant messaging app has announced some new enhancements for voice notes.

In a blog post on Wednesday, WhatsApp announced several new features that aim to improve the voice messaging experience. These features have been in the works for months now. They first made their way to the beta version on mobile and desktop and are now finally rolling out to everyone on the stable version of WhatsApp.

The most notable among the new features is the ability to play voice notes in the background. Up until now, if you left the chat while a voice message was playing, the playback would stop. Now when you start playing a voice message, you can move to a different conversation, close the app, or do other things without interrupting the playback.

Another useful addition is the ability to preview your voice message before sending them. When you record a voice message, you’ll have an option to listen to it before you hit the send button. In addition, you can also pause the voice recording and resume it when you’re ready. Finally, you can listen to voice messages at 1.5x or 2x speeds and pause and pick up a message where you left off, so you don’t have to listen to it from the start.

Here are all the new features and improvements coming to WhatsApp voice messages:

  • Out of Chat Playback: Listen to a voice message outside of the chat so you can multitask or read and respond to other messages.
  • Pause/Resume Recording: When recording a voice message, you can now pause the recording and resume when ready, in case you’re interrupted or need to gather your thoughts.
  • Waveform Visualization: Shows a visual representation of the sound on the voice message to help follow the recording.
  • Draft Preview: Listen to your voice messages before sending them.
  • Remember Playback: If you pause when listening to a voice message, you can pick up where you left off when you return to the chat.
  • Fast Playback on Forwarded Messages: Play voice messages at 1.5x or 2x speeds to listen to messages faster on both regular and forwarded messages.

New voice messages features will be rolling out to WhatsApp users in the coming weeks.

Gboard’s new magic wand button is here to step up your emoji game

Gboard is one of the best Android keyboard apps around. It has everything you ever want in a keyboard: accurate text correction and word prediction capabilities, a plethora of themes, voice typing, multilingual typing support, etc. In addition to these core features, the app also has some nifty tricks up its sleeve to make your typing a bit more fun and dynamic. These include Emoji Kitchen and text-based stickers. And now Google is rolling out a new magic wand button that will take your emoji game to the next level.

Google is rolling out a new magic wand button in the latest Gboard beta release. The button appears in the right corner in the top row, and when pressed, it automatically inserts relevant emoji in your message. So, for example, if you type “Good Morning” and tap on the magic wand button, you’ll see several emoji added to your message, including the rising over a mountain, the sun, a face throwing a kiss, and a couple of other emoji. Tapping the button a second time will insert one emoji between each word.

"Hi" text with emoji at the end in Gboard Gboard app with Miss you text and hugging emoji around it Gboard app with Good Morning text and emoji "Hi" message with hand emoji displayed in Gboard

The selection of suggested emoji is not consistent across apps. On WhatsApp, typing “Good Morning” and pressing the magic button only added just two emoji: the rising sun over a mountain and the sun peaking up on the horizon. Meanwhile, on Instagram, the feature added up to six emoji (mentioned above).

The magic wand button is indeed a clever feature, and it can save you the effort of going through the emoji picker and finding the right emoji to insert in your message. In our brief testing, we found that the magic wand button doesn’t show up in every app; it seems to only appear in instant messaging apps, which makes sense.

The magic wand button is rolling out with the latest beta release of Gboard. The feature isn’t yet available on the stable version of the app. If you want to give it a try, you can sign up for the beta program here. Alternatively, you can also grab the latest beta APK from APKMirror.

Google Play Protect is flagging certain versions of Vanced Manager

Google recently cracked down on Vanced, one of the most popular YouTube app alternatives for Android, and sent its developers a cease and desist order. As a result, the developers took Vanced offline, forcing users to look for other YouTube Vanced alternatives. But that doesn’t seem to be the end of the Vanced saga.

Since current versions of Vanced continue to work, some users still have the app installed on their devices. Along with the main Vanced app, users also have the companion Vanced Manager app on their phones. Recent reports on Reddit and Twitter reveal that Google Play Protect has now started flagging the Vanced Manager app as “harmful,” prompting users to uninstall it. This has raised questions about the legitimacy of the Play Protect warning, as the service previously did not flag the Vanced Manager app.

Credit: u/tedd235

Although Google hasn’t offered an official statement on why Play Protect is suddenly targeting the Vanced Manager app, Esper‘s Mishaal Rahman speculates that it could be due to the fact that Vanced Manager can use root access to install apps.

As you can see in the attached screenshot, the Uninstall prompt specifies that Vanced Manager “tries to bypass Android’s security protections.” This warning message corresponds to the ‘Elevated privilege abuse’ and ‘Rooting’ categories defined in Google’s official Play Protect warning strings for malware and mobile unwanted software (MUwS) documentation.

Vanced Manager Play Protect warning screenshot

Credit: Mishaal Rahman

But that doesn’t explain why Play Protect only targets certain versions of the Vanced Manager app. Testing indicates that the Play Protect warning only pops up for Vanced Manager v2.6.0, which is an older release. Users who have the latest version (v2.6.2) installed on their devices do not get the same warning. Vanced’s developers have also commented that they do not know why only one version of the app is affected, and we’re left scratching our heads too.

It’s worth mentioning that while you can’t download Vanced Manager from its official website any longer, you can still get it from trusted sources like APKMirror and then install other Vanced apps from within. In addition, Play Protect doesn’t seem to flag Vanced Manager v2.6.0 for all users. I installed the APK on two of my devices and while I got the warning on my Pixel 4a, I did not get one on my Galaxy S22 Ultra even after scanning manually.

OnePlus 10R looks a lot like the Realme GT Neo 3 in these leaked renders

OnePlus’ 2022 number series currently only has one device: the OnePlus 10 Pro. But if a new leak has to be believed, the company will soon be expanding the lineup with a new model called the OnePlus 10R.

According to tipster Yogesh Brar (via 91Mobiles), OnePlus is working on a new affordable flagship dubbed the OnePlus 10R. The new model will be a direct successor to last year’s OnePlus 9R. The leaker has also shared CAD renders of the OnePlus 10R, giving us our first look at the upcoming phone. As you can see in the attached images, the phone sports a centered hole-punch display on the front with very narrow side bezels and a rectangular camera module on the back housing three camera sensors.

The new model seems to drop the famous Alert Slider, which has been an integral part of the OnePlus number flagships, including the OnePlus 9R. An interesting bit to note here is that the design of the OnePlus 10R is quite similar to the upcoming Realme GT Neo 3. Except for the placement of the LED flash and the branding, both phones look identical.

In terms of specifications, the OnePlus 10R will reportedly feature a 6.7-inch Samsung E4 AMOLED display with FHD+ resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate. Under the hood, the phone will be powered by a MediaTek Dimensity 8100 chipset, paired with 8GB/12GB LPDDR5 RAM and 128GB/256GB UFS 3.1 flash storage. The phone is said to sport a 50MP primary shooter, accompanied by an 8MP ultra-wide camera and a 2MP macro sensor. We’re told the phone will come in two variants: one model packing a 4,500mAh battery with 150W fast charging support and the other with a 5,000mAh battery and 80W charging support. Other rumored features include stereo speakers, Dolby Audio support, and an in-display fingerprint scanner.

The rumors have it the OnePlus 10R will be unveiled sometime in May. However, OnePlus hasn’t officially confirmed anything about the phone so far.

The GPD Win Max 2 is a handheld gaming PC with the latest Intel and AMD CPUs

GPD, well-known for its various Windows and Android-powered consoles like the GPD Win 3, has revealed almost all the details of its next Windows-powered gaming console, the GPD WIN Max 2, and it’s looking very promising. The new model will come with upgraded Intel and AMD processors, a larger display with narrow bezels, and more.

Intel Core i7-1280P or AMD Ryzen 7 6800U

Starting with performance, the GPD WIN Max 2 will come in Intel or AMD versions, and both are very promising in their own right. The Intel model will come with an Intel Core i7-1280P (coming from the Core i7-1195G7 in the previous model), which is Intel’s top-tier CPU for ultra-mobile PCs. This processor has a total of 14 cores and 20 threads, making use of Intel’s new hybrid architecture. There are 6 performance cores capable of boosting up to 4.8GHz, and eight efficient cores backing it up. It has a base TDP of 28W, but it can go as high as 60W. Despite the increase in TDP, the power efficiency of the hybrid architecture could result in better battery life for this new model.

That also means you can Intel Iris Xe graphics, which are mostly unchanged from the previous model. Intel didn’t make any major updates to graphics with its 12th-generation mobile processors. Still, Intel Iris Xe can deliver a solid experience in many games, as long as you’re willing to dial down some settings.

GPD WIN Max 2 seen from below at a right-side angle

As for the AMD version, you can expect to see the new AMD Ryzen 7 6800U processor, which is also a big upgrade from the Ryzen 7 4800U that was in the original GPD WIN Max. This new processor is based on the Zen3+ architecture and it comes with 8 cores and 16 threads, plus some under-the-hood improvements compared to the previous generation. The big upgrade here is in terms of graphics, though. This processor features AMD’s latest Radeon Graphics 600M, which promises faster GPU performance than an NVIDIA GeForce MX450, a discrete laptop GPU. That should allow you to play even more modern games at higher settings, and it’s all thanks to the RDNA2 architecture, similar to what’s inside the Steam Deck.

Aside from the CPU, the GPD WIN Max 2 will come with either 16GB or 32GB of LPDDR5 RAM, supporting up to 5200 MT/s on the Intel model or 6400 MT/s on AMD. You also get a 1TB or 2TB PCIe Gen 3 M.2 2280 SSD built-in, with a second M.2 2230 slot available for easy expansion without tearing the whole PC apart. The M.2 2230 slot can also be used for an LTE modem if you want that kind of connectivity. The battery has also been upgraded from a 57Whr unit to a 65Whr one.

The GPD WIN Max 2 has a bigger 10.1-inch display

A major upgrade with the GPD WIN Max 2 will be the display, which will come in a much larger 10.1-inch panel compared to the original WIN Max’s 8-inch screen. GPD has significantly shrunk the borders around the display, even removing space for the webcam on the bezel.  The display now comes in up to Quad HD+ (2560 x 1600) resolution, though the default setting is Full HD + (1920 x 1200). Both are still an upgrade from the 1280 x 800 of its predecessor, though, so this should be good news if you want a sharper screen. As with the previous model, the display supports 10-point multi-touch and it even works with active pens with support for 4,096 levels of pressure.

GPD WIN Max 2 front right view

Because the bezels shrunk so much, the console isn’t that much bigger than its predecessor, even though the screen is much larger. Itt’s still slightly bigger, though, now measuring 228mm x 167mm. The previous model measured 207mm x 145mm, but it was also thicker.

Without space for the webcam on the bezel, GPD has moved it to the hinge, which is somewhat reminiscent of Nintendo’s DSi consoles back in 2009. This won’t be ideal if you’re using it like a laptop, but it should work well enough when you’re holding the console in your hands.

The larger design also makes room for a more spacious keyboard for typing, in addition to the usual Xbox-style controls, including analog triggers and sticks.

It has Thunderbolt 4 and USB4

In terms of ports, the GPD WIN Max 2 is also not lacking in at all. It has two USB Type-A ports on the side for peripherals, plus another USB Type-A port, HDMI, and two USB Type-C ports on the back. One of those Type-C ports is a big deal, though, because it now supports USB4 on the AMD models. Previously, you had Thunderbolt 4 support on the Intel model so you could hook up an external GPU or display, but the AMD version didn’t support that. With USB4, though, that should now be possible on both variants.

Another important feature is support for both microSD and full-size SD cards at the same time. If you need more storage space and you don’t want to fiddle with the SSDs, you can easily install SD cards and use that for data that doesn’t require super-high speeds.

GPD has also moved the power button to the edge of the chassis, on the front side. Not only that, but the power key now has a fingerprint reader built-in, so the laptop supports Windows Hello.

All in all, the GPD WIN Max 2 is looking like a very promising handheld Windows console. GPD has yet to say when the device will be available, or even when the Indiegogo campaign will start, but hopefully, it happens sometime soon. We also have no word on pricing information just yet.

Xiaomi’s next flagship could feature Leica-branded cameras

When it comes to Leica-branded smartphone cameras, only one name comes to mind — Huawei. But now that Huawei is just a shadow of its former self, a new contender is planning to launch a phone with Leica-branded cameras.

Chinese smartphone maker Xiaomi is reportedly working on a smartphone with Leica-branded cameras, and XDA Senior Member kacskrz has found new strings pointing towards the partnership in the Chinese version of MIUI‘s Gallery Editor app (v0.7.5). The strings highlight new filters that you will be able to use while editing photos and videos on the upcoming smartphone. These include a few filters with the Leica brand name.

Strings related to Leica branded filters in MIUI Gallery Editor v0.7.5 Strings related to Leica branded filters in MIUI Gallery Editor v0.7.5

As you can see in the attached screenshots, the strings mention four filters named after the iconic German camera maker — Leica Monochrom, Leica Monochrom HC (High Contrast), Leica Natural, and Leica Vivid. These filters are not live in the current version of the MIUI Gallery Editor, but their presence confirms that Xiaomi could launch a phone with Leica-branded cameras soon.

At the moment, it isn’t clear if the upcoming Xiaomi device will include other features found on older Leica-branded phones or not. For instance, the Leica Leitz Phone 1 comes with a shooting mode called Leitz Looks, which gives photos a unique black-and-white look. The Huawei P50 Pro, on the other hand, comes with two distinct Leica-branded filters, Leica Standard and Leica Smooth, along with the Leica Vivid filter mentioned earlier.

The upcoming Xiaomi device could include these features as well, but we don’t have any evidence to support this claim at the moment. We’ll make sure to let you know as soon as we have more information.

What do you think of Xiaomi’s decision to offer Leica-branded cameras on its smartphone? Could the partnership help Xiaomi improve the camera performance of its devices? Let us know in the comments section below.

Vivo’s first foldable smartphone is launching next month

Vivo is gearing up to launch its first foldable smartphone as it sets to join the ranks of Samsung, OPPO, and Honor. A teaser released by Vivo last week gave us a glimpse of the phone’s design. And now, the Chinese company has shared more details about its upcoming foldable phone, including the official launch date and a closer look at the design.

Vivo has confirmed its first foldable smartphone will be called Vivo X Fold, and it’s officially coming next month. The phone will be unveiled in China on April 11. Alongside confirming the launch date, the company also shared a video of the Vivo X Fold showcasing the overall design. As you can see in the video attached below, the Vivo X Fold adopts a similar inward folding design as to the Galaxy Z Fold 3.

It features a cover display and a large tablet-sized inner display. The back of the phone features a giant camera module that houses four camera sensors inside a ring, with the ZEISS branding and an LED flash situated on the left side. The back panel seems to have a textured leather finish.

Alongside the Vivo X Fold, Vivo’s April 11 event will also see the launch of the Vivo X Note and Vivo Pad. The Vivo X Note will be a premium flagship smartphone and is rumored to pack a 7-inch QHD+ Samsung E5 AMOLED display, Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chipset, and a 5,000mAh battery with 80W fast charging support.

The Vivo Pad will be the company’s first-ever tablet. Images shared by Vivo reveal the tablet will feature a premium all-metal design with flat edges and a circular camera module on the back. The Vivo Pad will support stylus input, and one of the images reveals Vivo will also offer a wireless keyboard with a trackpad.

We expect to learn more about the Vivo X Foldable, Vivo X Note, and Vivo Pad at the official launch event next month.
